Depends on how desiccated they are, but usually just a day or so. I haven't really "timed" it, so I can't say for sure.

This method works well, just remember to add the distilled water slowly and the cracking will be greatly reduced if not eliminated.

He is correct. The cracking will not affect the operation of the beads at all but if they crack enough they will come through the openings in the tubes.

Guys - got my first set of beads (in tubes, 65% RH type) today (thanks Viper!)... not wanting to crack them, I placed the 3 large tubes in a big ziploc baggie with 2 brand new sponges that were soaked in distilled water to the point of being really full. I plan to let them all live in this bag for a while, but not sure how long to leave them sit? Does anyone have some guidance for this process? The 2 sponges are on the bottom with the 3 tubes resting on top of them, so the absorption process shouldn't take too long I would imagine. TIA for any comments...
