Herf-a-dor or Cigar Caddy?

I am in the need of a larger travel case. I have a Cigar Caddy 5 stick box that works great, but it isn't big enough for vacation. My question is, does anyone have experience with the Herf-A-Dor case that they have on auction at Cbid? It looks like the same type of case, just a different manufacturer (Humi-Care vs. Otter) The price is better on the H-a-D but if it isn't made as well it isn't worth the savings. I would like a 15-24 stick case. If anyone has this size could you give me your

I have no experience with the Herfador but Cigar Caddy's are excellent. I've taken my floating, fishing , golfing and they work great and are indestructable (i've got 3 kids and they cant tear em up).

Sorry I know thats not much help for comparision but Cigar Caddy's are great.

Re: Herf-a-dor or Cigar Caddy?

I also have the 5-stick Cigar Caddy, and it's sufficient for my limited travel. Charge it 50/50 occasionally, and it performs as promised. You can beat the crap out of it, but it won't break.

Being one who tends to stay with stuff I can trust, I'd go for the larger CC. That's strictly subjective, of course!

I have a 32 count otter box that I picked up from C-bid for less than 30.00. It hold more sticks than I can smoke in a week while on vacation and is equally as indestructible as the rest. I really like it.

Re: Herf-a-dor or Cigar Caddy?

I got a 15 count Herf-a-Dor and it seems just as well made as other polypropolene (or whatever the material is) travel cases. I think I will have to run it over in my car just to see if the claims are true about its indestructibility. It's airtight and seems to keep the cigars in a pretty stable environment. One thing to be aware of is the little spot where you add moisture can come into contact with the smokes on the top level. I assume that the other brands are similar, so just be careful. I left the middle slot on the top level open.

The Herf-a-Dor I got (from famous smokes or cigar international) came with fifteen cigars: 5 Gurkha Legends, 5 Hoyo de Monterrey Excaliburs, and 5 5 Vegas Limitadas. The whole thing was $70. I don't know how much you're bidding for your item, but if it's $30 you could get 15 smokes for $40 more or a little over $2 per.

Not to rub it in, but I got that exact same pacakge on Cbid a couple of weeks ago for $43. THere is one on the block for tomorrow:

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=323260

I think they usually go for about $15-20 on Cbid empty. But some of the stuffed deals in the Samples section are pretty good. THe 15 smokes were easily worth the extra $20-25 bucks.

I own a 5 count Cigar Caddie and 15 count Herf-a-dor. The constuction is simular on both of them. The latch seems to operate slightly better on the Cigar Caddy.

Re: Herf-a-dor or Cigar Caddy?

Those made by Otterman are better quality than the Herf a Dor. Better Hinges, and better fitting foam inside.
For most vacations I take (2 weeks), the 25 cigar capacity seems to be the best since I usally have enough room to bring more smokes to share and make a mini Herf.

I was already bidding on the above auction (please don't steal it). I thought it was a good buy but wasn't sure about quality. I'm going on a week vacation to Tampa/St. Pete FL and wasn't sure how to get the smokes I'm sure to buy back home. Not to mention the sticks for while I'm down there. I may have to look into the Larger Cig Caddy anyway.

I won't bid on it if you promise to send me the 5 Dark Knights

The Gurka Legend is a fantastic cigar too. THose retail at about $20 each, so it is like buying 2 of them at a B&M and the other 12 cigars and herf-a-dor free!!!

Good Luck!!!

Re: Herf-a-dor or Cigar Caddy?

I just bought the 24 ct cigar caddy at my local B&B and love it. I need one for a trip I am taking in 2 weeks and didn't feel like messing with C-Bid and being in a jamb if I didn't win it. I did spend a few bucks more at my local shop but what the hell they are good guys and I got instant gratification. It is a great case and think it is worth having. I have borrowed justinphilly's 15 ct numerous times and liked that one as well, I thought however a bigger one was needed for a 10 day trip.

I just won one for $46. I had to rebid because my proxy was to low
I hope the box is decent. If not, I'm sure I'll enjoy the sticks! I can then go buy the Otterbox 5400 later.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Herf-a-dor or Cigar Caddy?

I've got the second biggest Otterbox Cigar-Caddy and LOVE it... I also have/have had a bunch of the 5 Count Otterboxes as wel and was equally impressed by them - they are like bargain Pelican boxes. The larger box is better though because it has a valve to let out the vacuum seal that seems to occur when I take the cases on an airplane.

Good Luck!!!

I use (and carry) the Cigar Caddy(s) and couldn't imagine NOT having one! One of those "must have" accessories.

THat is a great deal. The box is not as nice as the Otterbox, but it is every bit as functional. I would not worry about having to go out ang buy an Otterbox.
