Humidity help

More trouble with my tupperdor. I saw that the credo disc that was in there was not up for the job of humidifying all the cigars in there, so I went out bought some wet oasis material and dampened it with 50/50 pre-mixed propylene glycol solution. Now the size of the oasis material is probably a bit overkill - about the size of two regular sized discs, but my cigars have always been slightly too "crispy" for my taste.

Now the RH is nearing 80%. It makes no sense to me. As long as the solution is 50/50 shouldn't it always be near 70% regardless of the size of the oasis material?

MAybe it is just a crappy hygrometer. I'm waiting for my digital to arrive

I have no faith in analog hygros. I doubt anyone in this forum trusts them. I have one humi that came with an analog. I knew right away it was defective. I've purchased about five others in the last few months. All either don't work or are way off. Until you get the digital hygro, you'll have to trust your senses.

Re: Humidity help

It's because you have a lot of moisture in a plastic box. There's nothing to buffer the excess moisture. You will have to take some oasis out until you find the right amount. Beads would be easier to use, but with some trial and error, you can get it right. An extended peroid of 80%RH, will make your cigars burn and taste bad.
