florist foam

Hey guys I have been trying to put together a coolerdor and used florist foam to regulate humidity. I just read in a thread not to get the kind with flower preservative in it . So I checked and sure enough it does will this ruin the coolerdor or the cigars?

Re: florist foam

i'm thinkin that's going to ruin your cigars, as the coolerdor is just plastic and you can't ruin plastic unless you are melting it or something. ditch the foam and go for beads, if you can. a lot more consistent and longer lasting, in my experience.

oh, and welcome.

Re: florist foam

Well lucky I just put some cheap stuff in there around noon for a test run. So I have pulled those out. I have had empty boxes in there all week to let things stabilize after I pull the foam do you think its ok to still reuse the same boxes?

Re: florist foam

I suggest using beads, but if you prefer to use the florist foam, make sure to use a 50/50 solution (propylene glycol and distilled water) in there. It will help retard the growth of mold and bacteria. The boxes should be fine to reuse.

Re: florist foam

I have successfully used florist foam. The type that is for WET flowers. With 50/50 pg solution. Used it for 30 years.
Have been using the beads in some of my boxes. The foam is so much simpler and longer lasting..depends on the block size, no doubt. Trouble free.
There is no harm to cigars or cooleridors.
I pick up my foam at the florist a block for ~ 3 bucks.
