New Coolidor Need Advice

Well gents its finally came to buying a 120 QT Cooler because im tired of fighting the urge to buy cigars because of room restraints!!!

I know this has been covered but I have seen many different opinions.
What is the best and quickest way to get rid of the plastic smell?

I have seen baking soda mentioned as well as washing out with unscented soap.

Is there a need to fill it and let it soak with the soapy water?

Like I said sorry since I know this has been mentioned before.

Baking soda works very well. I have even used Dawn to clean mine. No need to soak. After you wash it out, leave it open outside for 8-10 hours to dry and the plastic smell will be gone.

When I deploy a new cooler, I wash it
thoroughly with hot water and dish liquid,
then let it sit open in direct sunlight for a couple of days.

Re: New Coolidor Need Advice

I just wipe mine down with a white vinegar/water mix and leave it open for a few days. No worries after that.

Re: New Coolidor Need Advice

Regular old soap and water worked great for mine. After a few days it will smell like a "humidor" with cigars, cigar boxes, trays, ect., in it.

I would do a version of Bobby's. Fill entirely with a nice alcoholic beverage of your choice. Sit inside with a straw. By the time you're done sipping (and wake up from passing out), the thing won't smell like plastic any more!

I had a plastic issue with my Vino. I was a little too impatient and only wiped down the inside with a distilled water soaked paper towel. I let it sit overnight, open and then started stuffing it with cedar boxes. I've now got cedar shelves and a cedar drawer and it smells pretty damn good.

I would have done the baking soda/distilled water thing but we were fresh out of baking soda and again, I'm impatient.

Re: New Coolidor Need Advice

Meh, just wipe it with a wet paper towel (distilled water preferrably), let it dry and air for a day or so. Once the boxes make it in there the smell will be gone.

Don't go buying cigars just because you have room now, watch the slope

Re: New Coolidor Need Advice

Hmmm fill it up with Guinness then drink it, I LIKE IT!!

Thanks all for the advice.

And yes the slope will get much steeper now I am sure!
As if it wasnt already bad enough!

The Coolidor is mainly going to be for whole boxes and mostly bundles that I like so i can buy a bunch of them and keep it full of what i smoke regularly.
That way i can use my humidors for just good stuff. Right now one 120 count is full of RP Corojo Edges, Gurkha Legends, DPG Blues, CAO Criollos and my favs Oliva O Habanos Coronas.

Ahhh life is good now!

Re: New Coolidor Need Advice

Wipe it down with some Everclear and then leave it open over night and you should be all set. I did this and it worked like a charm.
