Cigar Oasis + Humi Beads

Hopefully this will be my last coolerdor question(it should be up and running this week). Well I have 70% humi beads on order this week, and I was wondering if I could combine those with a cigar oasis XL to regulate the humidity better? Also if I do should I still add water for just let the beads soak up the excess humidity from the oasis? I was thinking of trying to get between 68 and 70% humidity.

Thanks

Re: Cigar Oasis + Humi Beads

I'm no expert, but it sounds like a question of VOLUME. I used both the 70% beads and a 50/50 credo in my cooler, and it seems to work well. The beads equalize the credo, and vice-versa. Spot checks with a (calibrated) digital consistently yield 68-70%, and recharging is rarely required.

I guess this is something that requires some experimentation... But so long as you don't leave the babies dry for an extended period, there's room to "tinker."

I responded to your email but posted here as well.

They can work together well. The beads will draw moisture from the oasis and probably not need more distilled water. Depending on the balance between the two you may need to dry the beads out once in a while but that is easy to do.

It's what I use in my cab's. (The combination) Massive overkill in a coolidor which should be airtight. Unless you open and close it for fun all day long, I'd just go with the beads.

You spying on me? Residential internet cooler-cam?

You're making me laff at me. I've been fiddling with the recent Sears winecoolerdor for the last week or two - trying to figure it out. And yes, I still open/close it all day long (on some days) just for fun - too much time on my hands? The RH dives instantly when the door comes open. I've found, however, that a 3" x 4" x 6" approx block of Oasis with 50/50 solution returns the unlined cooler to 67-70% about an hour after the door is closed. I suppose cedar lining would help, too. The closed boxes remain very stable regardless of the insanely gleeful door opening/closing ceremony.

The thrill will wear off in a few more weeks.

Re: Cigar Oasis + Humi Beads

I have read that there is some possibility of glycol getting into the beads and making the beads less effective. I think the glycol 'outgasses' so slowly that this probably doesn't matter. In any case, I use Western's Humifier which I don't think has glycol along with beads.

PS: Oops, I guess that Oasis doesn't use PG, so I guess what I posted is a bit ot.

I agree...will the beads fight with the Oasis? I think the XL can handle in upwards of 500 gars it's just a matter of how much distilled water it uses. I use the Oasis w/ 250 gars and removed all other passive devices.
