Question 1st Time using...

a Humidor. I picked up a 50 count humi and was wanting a experienced reply on how to season the box. It came with a cheapie analog hygro, i think i am going to discard that and replace it with a digital meter. I was wanting to velcro it to the underside of the lid. The guy at the shop said to take distilled water and wipe it down and close the box, then come back when it "looks" dry and repeat. Then after that, place a shot glass of DW in it and let it sit overnight. He then said I should be set. My question is, is this a proper way of seasoning the box? Also what's a good economical price for a SMALL hygro and location to purchase?

Thanks from the chimp!

Be careful wiping down the inside with DH; less is more, and seasoning can take some time. His instructions sound pretty good. I would fill up your humidifying element, install it inside the humidor and just patient for a couple of weeks.

Do you have a lot of cigars to fill it? A full humidor works better than an empty one in terms of regulating the humidity. Your cigars may go down in RH a little at first but all will level out. Just be patient with the humidor and it will season itself.

Re: 1st Time using...

There's a debate over whether to wipe down the inside of a humidor. I've always done it and never had a problem. Other people think it's a terrible idea.

One important thing: make sure you salt test your hygrometer. Even digital hygrometers can be quite a bit off when you purchase them.
