Humidor/Display Case?

the gf wants to get me, or wants me to get a nice humidor. I was looking into the treasure dome style but she insists that it's ugly. She would like a humidor that displays my cigars, but i'm concerned that the glass will cause too much of temperature fluctuations vs standard wood. also they look like they don't have a very good seal to them. the one we were looking at is this,

http://www.cigarmony.com/index.asp?P...ROD&ProdID=203

any recomendations on this. how are they for aging/storing cigars? any feed back would be appreciated.

she is all for a vinotemp, but i can't seem to find one. also i don't need one that big although it would be nice.

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

The good news is many of these glass units can have extra odour free clear silicone added to improve the seals if needed, bad news is the lack of much spanish cedar may slow the flavoring process. Some uber picky aficianados may complain about the 45 degree angle impacting the foot of the cigar over time too. idunno though?

b.t.w congrats on having a woman that supports you hobby, I still hide most of my sticks from my other half.

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

HA!!! she doesn't really support my hobby, she just thinks its cheaper than my other hobbies. if she only knew .

she did say a good thing though, when i was out buying more cigars...

"stop buying more and smoke the ones you have already"

thank you both for the replies.

i never considered the damage to the foot of the cigars. I just see that the local B&M also have them displayed on the 45 degree angle and figured no biggie. the angles at the local store are probably less though.

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

I'm a fan of glass top humis. Not necessarily that one, but there are some beauties around. They have their advantages too...you can see your cigars and can check on your humidity levels without opening the lid all the time.

Mine holds the humidity quite well!

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

I too am a HUGE fan of the glass top. Not trying to pimp a product but I bought 2 of these for friends within the last month and they are spectacular. Very heavy, solid units and seemed to hold humidity quite well. For an extra 10.00 they`ll engrave something on the glass to. We did this and my wife dropped her jaw she was so impressed. (she hates the cigar hobby. Oh well sucks to be her.)

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

Try a glass front cabinet, that would probably be the most effective. You are going to need it eventually

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

I have the Art Deco from Cheaphumidors.com. Holds the humidity great. I used a scent free waterbased sealant just in case.
Looks like this.

Re: Humidor/Display Case?

i have a smaller one the same style as the display cab. been a couple of years but still works great...holds humidity, looks great. as far as impacting the foot i havent had a problem with that and nothing in there has cello on and some have been in there since i got it. maybe it has to do with how much you handle them and stuff.

Smile Re: Humidor/Display Case?

I would avoid getting the DOME...because SHE thinks it's ugly...
You will learn in time...
Show her that you value her opinion and agree the TDOME is not for you.
I like WhoDeySchenk's humi..looks cool.
I'm not a fan of the 45 display that you like. If SHE doesn't like the 45 display don't do it...
I do like display humis.
Here is my only glass display humi. It is inexpensive yet holds rh well. looks good to...

Seems that I don't have a pic after I seasoned it...It's full now ..
I'll have to take a newer pic.
The beads you see are 70%
I don't think or know if the analog hygrometer works or moves...
