Cigar Repair Glue

My local tobacconist doesn't sell any, wondering where I can get some. A few of my wrappers are peeling and I'd like to rescue the sticks. Anyone know?

Re: Cigar Repair Glue

Grocery store, canning goods, pectin. The pectin is probably the most popular thing used. Do a search here for "pectin" and you should get plenty of results.

No problem. You still may want to search and read up on it to make sure you are using it properly. I have not had to use it before but many of the FOGs here swear by it.

Re: Cigar Repair Glue

Originally I was using Guar Gum to repair & roll cigars, obtained from the health food store in gel caps. But after further research I have obtained and used Gum Tragacanth exclusively, it is a step up.

Here is a excerpt from the webiste where I purchased my Tragacanth Gum.

Quote:
Gums are chewing gum, right? So Wrong! Actually, chewing gum isn’t gum, it is a resin – chicle. We like to think of gums as the flipside counterpart of starches. Basically, gums are thickening, gelling and suspending water soluble carbohydrates, similar to starches. Gums are also emulsifiers that prevent oil and water separation in products like salad dressings.

Within the food industry, because gums are typically all natural and of a plant source (of both land and sea plants), they are finding greater acceptance as gelatin replacements, which are of an animal protein source (mostly beef and pork hides and bones.) Unlike gelatin products, gum products do not “melt away” at room temperature. And when compared with starches, since gums are used at much lower levels - as low as one-tenth of the amount that a starch would be used – there is no flavor masking.
http://www.gumsper.com is owned an operated by a really nice guy, Bill Santa Cruz out of Tucson, AZ.

A couple of ounces of the powder cost $7 plus shipping. Unless you are rolling, rolling, rolling that amount will last a very long time.

If you would like to use what many Torcedors use order up some Gum Tragacanth. For a quick fix drop in at your local health food store for some Guar Gum, (it's great for thickening sauces at low temps and good for you too

Another vote for pectin. It's cheap and you'll have plenty left over for the future.

Re: Cigar Repair Glue

I wanted to fix a few right away, so went to safeway and bought some liquid pectin. Worked nicely. Smoked my Bolivar royal corona 5 minutes after repairing, and it worked nicely, and it was pretty badly damaged. Thanks for the info all

Gwar was fun in concert. Except the part about getting sprayed with hella fake blood and guts and things, but that's part of the Gwar experience i suppose. Too bad their music isn't my thing :P

The picture I posted was of Leonard with his penis puppet. My guess is the hosting site has disabled hotlinking. Boo.
