Question Moving My Sticks

So I'm gonna be moving back to the states in June. From the cigars I've tasted here in Korea, and the outstanding prices I'm getting, I'm positive I'm gonna be bringing some back with me. The military ships my household goods seperately. They put them on a boat, and while I'm sure that care is taken, theres no way I'll be able to ship my humidor and let it sit on a boat for a month or so. I'll have to take my cigars with me on the plane, there's no other option. Assuming I bring back, oh, say, 60 cigars, whats my best bet for a travel humidor that i can trust will last my till my real humi arrives safe and sound?

I have this one

Great for long trips. I would look for it cheaper than this site though. Seems like I paid around $50 for mine.

Re: Moving My Sticks

Danger, Will Robbins, Danger!!

If you are talking cubans (even unbanded) here, attempting to bring them in by person will run a high risk of you stopped and searched, and stogies taken by customs. They will not have to prove the cigars are not cubans. YOU will have to prove they are not, which you will not be able to do!! If they are N/Cs, and you declare in person, thaty many will probably subject you to import fees and taxes. Almost worth the risks of shipping with your household belongings. Plenty of humidification devices you can buy to keep them at correct moisture level. Plenty of bubble wrap in an oversized box is a possible solution to damage concerns. I think I would be more worried about losing them to custome than about humidor damage!

Maybe Par will chime in hear, and comment on his experiences entering and leaving to and from Asia.

Just walk through the airport with your humidor and a smile, be sure to wear your fatigues. If they search and seize, I would question their patriotism.

Re: Moving My Sticks

You might also think about mailing them to yourself. Might be an option to try. That or mailing to a friend there that can look after them for ya might be an option as well.

Re: Moving My Sticks

what if you stuck crappy bands such as Thompsons on the cubans and pass them off as dog rockets?

Re: Moving My Sticks

I honestly think that if you ordered a pound of beads, put em in a small cooler, and put your sticks inside, that they would be ok for the shipping period. I also like the idea of mailing them to yourself. Beyond that, I can't be any help. Hope you figure out some way!

Re: Moving My Sticks

I'm for the idea to pack them up and ship them to yourself. When any of us order from a vendor, it may take a week or two in transit. After they arrive, let them rest in a properly regulated humidor for a week or two and you should be good to go. I would not attempt to carry them into the US.

Re: Moving My Sticks

Thanks guys! If only my whole move was as easy to plan. I like the beads idea, my main concern was something going wrong and me not being there to monitor the levels. I guess as long as I take the proper care i'm sure I'll be fine. Not to mention the fact that shipping them lets me get habanos over here in a much more discreet fashion, as the crates they place household shipments in remain sealed until they get ot my door. Hmm, better start stocking up on Montes...

Re: Moving My Sticks

Ship them sealed up in a cooler with beads and you're all set. Actually, if you are going to stock up at a store (that is worth their weight in salt), they should be able to wrap up each box and your old boxes so everything is air tight and secure. Between that and the beads, a month or so should be ok.

You could also just carry them with you wrapped up and declare them as SK cigars... If they are wrapped, you should not have a problem.
