Quick Coolerdor Tip...

Like many here, I rely on coolerdors for long-term storage, partly for economy, and partly because they're far easier to humidify in our dry winter climate. Still, you kinda' miss the cedar scent when you open the lid.

FWIW... Beyond storing the sticks in boxes, I save the cedar wraps from cigars I've smoked, and toss them into the coolerdors. Sort of an on-the-cheap way of enhancing the "ambiance" of an Igloo or Coleman!

Another thing that works well in the same lines - I throw in the cedar divider from between the layers of cigars that I get in dress boxes - also easy and cheap (except for the cost of the cigars. of course)

Re: Quick Coolerdor Tip...

I have some cedar boards in their as shelves to seperate the top from the bottom. Works well to add some aroma.

Both good ideas. I also use the divider sheets from dress boxes but when I first set up my coolerdor, I bid on and won this lot from the devil. A good $4 investment.

That's pretty good. If you have boxes filling up the cooler though you should be ok. If you have a lot of empty space in there the extra cedar will help regulate and hold humidity

Re: Quick Coolerdor Tip...

i dont have myself a coolidor but ive considered setting one up...which i will probably soon need to do. and anyway, i was told (correct me if im wrong) that the boxes that have the paper around them, if you peal the paper off and break them apart, that is all spanish cedar. Then you could put that in there too.

Not sure about that.

It's really find to just have boxes in the cooler. The cigars are inside the cedar anyway.

Re: Quick Coolerdor Tip...

BargainHumidors.com also sells some nice Spanish cedar trays that you can use to sort your singles. These work well, and at only about 8 or 9 dollars each, are a pretty good investment.

Re: Quick Coolerdor Tip...

What I did to enhance both the smell of my cooler and make it more visually appealing was I took the lid of a H. Upmann cigar box and velcroed it to the inside of the lid, and took the bottom of the box which is cedar and velcroed it to the bottom of my cooler. Looks cool and adds a little bit of the cedar smell.

I do almost the same thing-except I used a Drew Estate La Vieja Habana box art(The cigars I don't care for, the artwork is great) and assorted dividers and cedar blocks, not so much for looks, but to regulate humidity.

NICE TIP!!! Glad to see that there are others who sacrifice aesthetics for functionality in the interest of building stock!
