Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

I purchased my Vicksburg 2 weeks ago. So far its worth every penny.

I fit approximately 6 full boxes so storage capacity is adequate comparing
to a desktop. 500ct is a myth. I would say 350 tops.

If your looking to real storage go with a bigger humidor. I've reached
full capacity already and I'm still looking for more. LOL

I had initial problems during delivery with broken glass but they replaced it w/in a week. Great Customer Svc.

Good Luck....

If you stay around here for very long your going to need lots of storage!!!!

Listen when a wise man speaks!! I bought a 150ct 6 months ago thinking it was all I would ever need. I ran out of room 2 months later. I was gonna do the coolerdor thing but I like the vicksburg better. If I ever outgrow this Vicksburg ...my wife will divorce me

Bubinga in a redish color

Mahagony is a darker color more towards black.

Look here for my post, you will see both of my humis in Bubinga

Ahhhhhh. I finally ordered it -- the mahogany for those that are interested. I liked the bubinga, but it would’ve stuck out like a sore thumb.

That humidor will be mine...it will be mine.

Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

I love it. There's plenty of room for smokes -- I bought about 80 on CBid once I had the humidity stabilized -- and the workmanship/fit is better than I expected. My friends can't believe I paid $115 w/humidifier and hygrometer.

The only issue I have is keeping constant humidity throughout the humidor (see this thread) but that's really related to the size of the humidor. I tried the Oust fan and that seemed to help but I will probably (i) get four 65% bead tubes and place them throughout the humidor or (ii) embark on this option.

Have fun filling it. I am.

Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

I have the Vicksburg in Mahogany. Really like it. I double stack the top shelves have a lot of loose sticks in the bottom. Now that it is completely seasoned and fairly full of cigars, I haven't had issues with maintaining RH. Stays between 66 and 68% depending upon the temp of the basement. I really didn't get to work trying to stabilize the RH until the middle of January of this year. Took a few weeks for the cedar to soak up the correct amount of water I suppose.

I keep a small glass bowl of distilled water in the bottom and that is all I need for now.

Keep in mind that whenever you add a large amount of cigars to your humi, the RH will fluctuate until the cigars settle in. Don't panic.

Enjoy your purchase.

Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

fed ex dropped it off at my door yesterday. hopefully it well be ready to stock within a week or two. i've got a 19 qt. cooler that i'll be transfering out of for now. think i'll keep the cooler for boxes and use the vick for bundles and singles.

any suggestions or tips on seasoning? i have a bowl of distilled water sitting at the bottom of it right now. i guess it is pretty much the same as with my desktop, but it will just take it a little longer to soak up the moisture and balance out.

Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

WHen I seasoned mine...I put a small dish of 70/70 solution in the bottom with paper towle kinda sticking up out of the liquid on one side of the bowl. I had jsut enough solution to keep the papertowel wet and checked it every day.
The paper towel gives the solution more surface area to evaporate from and humidifies faster. I think mine was stable at 65% in 3-4 days.

Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

Heat that small bowl of distilled water in the microwave and place in the humi. Repeat several times. Then let the humidity come down naturally to 68% then start loading!

Re: Thinking about the Vicksburg

I'm pretty impatient, so I wouldn't necessarily follow my advice -- if I don't see the humidity readout increasing I have to do something about it.

I used a bowl of water with a little glycopropyl (or whatever it is) to prevent mold. I also used the wet paper towel to increase the surface area. That didn't give me instant results so I wiped the interior (including shelves and separators) with a wet (distilled water) rag and nuked the bowl of water. I let the humidity stabilize around 75-80% then replaced the bowl with the humidifier (they call it a humifier) and it stabilized around 70% -- I think it took 2-3 days. I like getting the humidity over the desired level because it drops once you open the humidor and remove the bowl.

I don't smoke that many cigars, but filling the humidor is almost as much fun.
