What's wrong with my hygrometer?

I have a Caliber III digital hygrometer that I just recently purchased. Whenever I open up the humidor to take a look at it, it reads fine, and its measurements are verified as accurate.

However, when I press on the button to look at the "max" temperature and humidity, I see numbers that are completely impossible. Recently it was reading 84 degrees as the maximum temperature. Last night, though, it said that the max temperature was 104 degrees with a humidity of 77%.

There is no way that the inside of my humidor was 104 degrees. The inside of my house was no warmer than 75 degrees, and this thing is sitting in a cool, dark closet on the floor, and it is not next to a vent.

What is going on with my hygrometer?

Try a new battery?

Sometimes they wig out when the battery is dying.

Hmm....sometimes mine do it too. And I don't use Caliber. Just a glitch, I guess.

That is exactly what the problem is. I have four of them and when they start doing that I change the batteries and all is fine again.

I figured that the battery might be the most likely problem. It's too bad since I just bought this about a week ago.

Oh well, a couple of dollars for a battery is better than having a completely defective hygrometer .

Who knows how long it was sitting on the shelf though...you have the right idea, $3 bucks later all will be well.

If the battery change doesn't work, I would consider moving out of the Amazon Basin.
