Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
I have been going through the process of looking for a cab now for the better part of 2 months. As soon as I settle on one, I find another possibility.
This morning in searching the web, I came across this cab http://www.odindesigns.com/products.html Has anyone even heard of this company? The cabinet looks sweet, and it fits our decor well, but I'd hate to pay $800 for something that will be chit. Any thoughts are appreciated. I don't need directed to Avallo or Aristocrat or Vigilant, trust me, I've studied these until my eyes have bled. Thanks |

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
I think that the dimensions are smaller than both the Avallo and Aristo for a similar price. Also, I don't think from what I can tell that there is Spanish Cedar on the interior. Looks like a good piece of furniture and they have a money back guarantee w/ refundable shipping if you don't like it - so not much of a risk there. Would want more info on the humidification system which isn't really provided.

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
The design is nice. It says solid mahogany. Looks like maybe African Mahogany. Nice striping. Maybe a natural oil finish? It might have the same properties as Spanish Cedar. No liner required. Looks like it has a patented climate control. That's probably why there aren't any pics. They don't want anyone stealing their ideas. I'm assuming it can be set at any RH you desire. The only negative comment I have is that whoever did the write up must not smoke cigars. 70-73%RH? Too wet! Moneyback guarantee. I'd like to see one, but on the basis of the pictures, I like it. Something like that won't be cheap. I'd say it's priced to be competitive with other cabinets. Seems reasonable. Send 'em an e-mail and quiz them a bit.

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
That looks great for fitting in as a small table. It sounds pretty nifty, with all the technology. I bet you it has Spanish cedar lining. However, I've heard that glass doors, however much more they contribute to the thing looking like a humidor, are very convenient for checking measurements without opening the door. It kind of depends on whether or not you want to spend $800 on a 500 count humidor... you might need two

Stylish, and in a similar price bracket as some of the other big names. Go for it!

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
Its a nice humidor. I would say buy it if you like it.
Just keep in mind. I know you have looked at Avallo and Aristocrat. These guys will be around when you are having problems and also if in a few years form now something happens to the humi. They have a name to protect and will bend over backwards to help. Sometimes spending the little extra in this case maybe worth it in the long run. Especially when you are already at $800.00. Whatever you buy good luck and be sure to post pics of it full. I love humi and cigar ****.

I have tried to contact these folks as well, however I have never received a reply. Also they say they use Phillipino Mahogony for their material.

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
A very beautiful humidor, I especially like the bowed (curved) door. I would buy it if you like it. It does seem a little on the small side. I wouldn't worry too much about a spanish cedar lining as spaish cedar is actually in the mahogany family and not truly cedar. I have seen very nice humidors lined with mahogany and sycamore. Very nice wood work and design.

I, too, have yet to receive a response on the questions I sent (only been about 6 hrs). I asked about the huidification system, and build/shipping times. As you stated it is solid Phillipino mahogony, so no spanish cedar needed. I guess if they don't contact me, that will give me the indication I need concerning customer service. Thanks for the opinions, I've been bouncing around between the Avallo 1200, triple D shorty, and the Aristo M. Obviously the D and M are much larger, but who needs that kind of room ![]() |

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
Another thing to consider is how long they've been around and are going to be around. It looks like that's their only product - which leads me to believe it's a one man operation. Is he going to be able to honor any warranty (which looks like it only covers the humidification device)? What if you don’t discover you don’t like it more than seven days after you get it (it’s probably going to take longer than that to season it) – is he going to let you return it? Is he going to close down shop in a year (if he hasn't already)?
Small is not bad, but a company that's a little bigger and been around a little longer might be able to offer you better service if something goes wrong.

But, if that's what you want, then go for it man! It's definitely a nice piece of furniture! Some guy posted a while back that he bought a lighter......? Or an ashtray.....or something like that for a TON of money....I guess it's all relative....![]() |

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
My thoughts on this humidor are you will be disappointed in the long run. I import humidors for a living and with experence can tell you that humidors that have doors like this are known to loose their seal very quickly. Without becoming long winded as soon as you reach perfect humidity the doors usually will bend. The only exception I have found is if there is a lock in the center or a latch of some sort. Even then the top and bottom cornors may bend after time.
Secondly it looks like there is no room on top for the humidifaction devices. Rememer humidity falls. Don't buy something with a device on the bottom. Good luck!

Re: Another cabinet humidor...any thoughts??
Thanks again to all who have responded. Although I think this is a nice looking cabinet, it is now off the list of possibilities. Looking at the M and Shorty D, getting quotes on both, and going with one or the other.
