Cigar Oasis problem

I ordered a cigar Oasis with an order of H.Upmann cigars from J.R's. I got the Oasis but it never Quits running, Humididity in my humidor is at 75% and Oasis thinks its 13.5 %. I know that's not correct. I'm going to call J.R's on Monday but I thought if any BOTL's might have seen this situation before you might have some advice or tell me if I did something wrong. As alway's any and all help is appreciated.

Edit; I just checked my humidor and now the cigar oasis is reading 72.5% humidity. I don't know if I'm going to be comfortable with my cigars in my humidor. Have any of you experienced this before? My humidor is brand new and I am seasoning it. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Did you take out the plastic plugs? I made this mistake. I left them in and it ran all the time. I also left the batteries in but did not plug them in. I think if you plug in the batteries and the power cord it will run all the time also. RJT

I had a problem with one of the previous models. I contacted Cigar Oasis directly, told them the problem, and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. Great service.

If your humi is not properly seasoned, that could be the culprit. The CO is having to do run constantly to get enough moisture into the cedar before the humi levels out.

Also check your RH setting to make sure you don't have it set too high. Make sure you also have a good digital hygro to check against the CO as my CO doesn't read accurately compared to my digital hygro.

Same here.
Darn thing would not stop running.
Called the company, they walked me through some adjustments that unfortunately did not work.
They immediately shipped me a new one.
Had it happen to my dad's CO and contacted them and again, no questions, immediately shipped me a new one.
Since then, they both ran exceptionally well.
Ovearall, any company that has that type of customer service, top notch in my book.

Re: Cigar Oasis problem

The H. Upmann robusto I ordered has a dark oily wrapper and ships without cellophane. I haven't lit one up yet. I am waiting to get a little age on them, but if they taste like they look its going to be a winner. The Cigar Oasis is turning out to a bit of a dissapointment. I'm going to call J.R.s today we'll see what happens.

Re: Cigar Oasis problem

I had the Oasis before.

The problem is one of two things.

1. If it is over filled it will just keep running and running. Take the plug out and empty and excess water that may be in there.

2. If it is underfilled it will keep on running as well.

You also may wanna try to unplug it for 30 seconds or so. Then plug it back in. It may just reset itself.

Re: Cigar Oasis problem

Is it constanlty running, i.e. runs all the time non-stop? Or is it starting and stopping every few minutes? Mine starts and quickly stops every once in a while.

The problem seems to be that the hygrometer is not measuring correctly. The hygrometer shows the humidity in my humidor being between 12.8% and 15.9%. I did unplug it overnight and the next day it read fairly close to the actual humidity, it stayed fairly constant for a couple of days. I came home after work and humidity was up to 73%. The CO showed low H2O so I added water, drained the excess and plugged it in. Humidity level on CO showed 14.9% humidity. I unplugged it and called JR's they are sending me a return authorization label. I want to thank everyone who responded for their input. Feel free to PM me if you think I may be doing something wrong. I hate to have to return the this unit.

The hygros on the COs are not accurate. I have an XL+ that did the same thing as yours. All I did was use my Caliber III digital hygro as the accurate measurement and tweaked the setting on my CO until the RH stayed at 68% per the Caliber III. For my CO to keep 68% RH, I actually have to set it at 73.2%. For some reason, the CO hygro reads higher than the actual RH in your humi so you just have to adjust for that by using a more accurate digital hygro.

Now, for some reason, when you unplug the CO for more than a few minutes and plug it back in, the CO reads real low on the RH display (around 12-15%) and slowly creeps up and levels out. Mine does this while the Caliber III still reads fine. After about an hour or two, the CO is back to normal. So now, when I refill the cartridge, I just don't unplug the unit. I slide off the cartridge and tend to it while leaving the top unit plugged in and laying in the bottom of my humi. Since I've been doing this, I've had no problems whatsoever with the CO.

Bottom line, I don't think yours is broken, it just has a few nuances that you have to learn to work with. Mine did the exact same as yours and I remedied it by doing the above and the CO is working like a champ, keeping my 600 stick humi at 68% RH and only comes on a few times an hour for a short run of the fan and nothing else.

I do the same exact thing. I think the fan on the CO is weak. When it detects that the RH has reached its set point, it shuts off. The problem is that the sensor is directly attached to the CO itself. The RH is obviously going to be higher in the area directly surrounding the CO. The fan, IMO, does a poor job of circulating the RH. I bought a battery powered Oust fan and placed it a few inches away from the CO. My RH has stabilized all across my humi.

Re: Cigar Oasis problem

Thanks for the info, I will experiment with it after work. BTW, I bought the oust fan too after reading about it here. Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how the experiment goes.

Re: Cigar Oasis problem

O.K. I plugged my CO+ in and let it run for about 2 hours the humidity reading never got above 14.9%. I then attatched the resevoir and let it run another 30 minutes, the humidity never got much higher than the 14.9%. I'm going to be sending it back to J.R.s.
The H.Upmann robustos will not be going back, That cigar is ever bit as good as it looks. I know they will get better with age.
