lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

ok heres the deal I have a colibri lighter. the $14.95 model I use the triple refined fuel cause the guy at my B&M said it would void the warranty. I follow the directions to the letter when I refilll it and on the 3rd refill the flame quit looking like a jet flame instead it now llloks like a ergular lighter flame. ANyway I could use some help if somone has some advice other than spend $40 on a lighter I cant afford

Re: lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

I have many colibri lighters (torch and regular) and have never had a serious problem. Between every refill I blow out the burner with some compressed air. They recommend this to keep the burner clean. I'd give that a try.

Hope it works out.

no problem. Collecting and caring for your lighters can be as much of a hobby as collecting asnd caring for the cigars!

A happy lighter is a good working lighter I guess.

Re: lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

When you filled the lighter you held the gas can upside down right? If not, you may not have gotten much gas in the lighter which may explain why it quick working so fast. I can usually smoke a half dozen or more cigars between filling my Colibri.

Re: lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

The instructions likely include a procedure to "purge" the lighter, but if not push down the fill valve with a pen tip or small screwdriver to bleed out all the extra air in there prior to refilling.

The problem with may Chinese made torch lighters is that the pressure they are filled and calibrated with at the factory is different than the refill cans have. What can be done to remedy this is to remove the screw from the bottom of the lighter, pull off the bottom, and locate the small metal tab around the fill valve that stops the adjustment dial. Slide this tab up and off of the fill valve (it usually has an O-ring holding it down) and then turn the fill valve 1/2 turn past the original stop point. Replace the tab and the O-ring, then put the bottom back on the lighter.

I have fixed 2 Nibo and 1 Colibri lighter this way.

I would also highly recommend the Prince/Blazer PB-207 lighter. The new childproof version runs right around that $40 you quoted, however the original version can be ordered from NextCigar.com for $27 shipped. This Japanese made lighter is much higer quality than the China made Colibris. The lighter will work year after year with none of the maintenance or modding that is required from others.

Re: lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

PHEW!!! I like the idea of a cool lighter, but life is already complex enough, and I can't bring myself to adding lighters to my list of vices.

For now, I'll just read and learn.

My table lighter (a designer-model Burnz-O-Matic) lights about 70 cigars to the fill (unless I'm using it to solder or sweat pipes)... My butane of choice comes from the dollar store... If I'm away from home, the Bic and matches do the trick.

Someday I suppose I'll pop for one of those jet things... But not until I'm convinced that they're reliable.

The way to keep a Colibri running is to put it on a shelf and use a Blazer instead...

Re: lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

My younger brother loves torch lighters but has a tendency to lose every lighter that he takes outside. I went to WalMart and found that they sell Ronson Jetlite torch lighters for 2.94 (next to the cigarette counter). They are refillable and surprisingly well built for the price. He now has a windproof torch lighter and he doesn't have to worry about losing it, breaking it, or theft because of the low the $$. I bought myself one as well and I'll right a review with pics once I've had it a month.

Re: lighter problems HALP!!!!!!!

Much as I want to like them, refillable lighters just frustrate and annoy me. I hate having to maintain a simple tool that stands between me an my cigars. I use bics and matches 99% of the time. They always work until they die, then it's on to the next one.

I recently bought one of these ronson jet lite lighters as well. seems to be solid quality, only thing that i might be concerned about is the lid snapping off. i am unsure how well its secured. other than that good quality

easy to refill and can adjust the flame just as easly with a penny.

only things i dont like is the ronston logo on it (and engraved in there so i cant get it off without messin up the lighter lol) and no way to take it apart and repair it if it ever gets damaged. other than that great torch lighter in my opinion

I have another torch lighter i got up in dallas for five bucks. It has been my carry around lighter for two years and still works, its old and worn out of course but still works perfectly well. had someone offer me ten for it (shoulda taken it lol)

this lighter has been through some harsh treatment in its two years, have melted pennys and other soft metals as well as set many things on fire and even welding a small animal cage together soley with the lighter and it still works just as well as when i bought it

only repairs ive had to do is de-gut it once because the electronic trigger stopped working. a 5 minute job that took two hours cause i didnt know what was wrong (kinda why i wish there was a way to get the ronson apart if i ever needed too. im guessing the casing is glued on)

the ronson jet lite will proably become my carry on lighter till it breaks then go back to my other one, hoping the ronson gives me as good service as the one i got in dallas (sorry cant give the name, if it had one its long rubbed off and dont rember)

only thing i can say about torch lighters is during broad daylight you cant see the flame but its there
