Humidifier question

When I go tmy humidor the guy I bought it from said just to soak my humidifier with bottled water. As I search this I see to use distilled water. I have had my humidor for about 8 months. Is my sponge ruined from the bottled water? Should I get a new one? One more question: How many times should I soak my humidifier a week? Thanks

Re: Humidifier question

There are posters on this board with a lot more experience than I have but the tap, bottled, distilled water thing isn't overly important - in my opinion. I've had so many different people tell me so many different things that I'm really not sure there are ever any hard and fast rules to follow.

On the sponge question, I used to check my sponge about once a week. Usually, I could go a little longer before saturating it again. Now, I kind of manage by my hygrometer reading. If it seems a little low (for what I want) I'll go ahead and wet the sponge a little.

Again, no expert. But, I think what you'll find is that you figure out what you like and your own comfort zone and go with that. If it works for you, that's all that really matters.

Re: Humidifier question

One word, BEADS! Passive Credo devices leave too much to guess work. Get some beads from Heartfelt and you will take a lot of frustration out of humidor maintenance. I wish I would have found this info one day-one of my hobby. Do a search and you will find TONS of info on them.
