Vector XCaliber Lighter....Yay or Nay

My older Colibri gave out, and I'm tired of lighting cigars with matches. So, I was looking for some opinions about this lighter. Thanks in advance.

Re: Vector XCaliber Lighter....Yay or Nay

In 2004/05 several Vector lighters had problems with their fill valves. The valve either doesn't have enough spring pressure or perhaps the valve stem gets bent easily. Whatever the cause, the result is the valve sticks open/doesn't return to close properly and lighter spews out half the butane you put into it.

I had this problem with the Vector Emporer lighter I have. IHT had the same problem with his, not sure which model it was. I seem to recall one or two additional people on the board here who experienced it.

I would find out if the fill valve issues have been resolved, perhaps ask to fill one in a store if you are looking at them at a B&M.

I spent a lot of time "working" the fill valve on my Emporer, pushing in and releasing the fill valve for several hours while watching TV one evening. I also put a little light oil on the outside of the valve. Since doing this fix the last 3 fills of the lighter have gone just fine.

Vector does have a decent 5 year warranty, and warranty service only runs around $8 as I recall.

This is what prevented me from carrying the Vector Mega Pumps but they recently fixed the valve in the Mega Pumps. I am not sure if this was across the whole product line or not though.
