Question Xikar Crystal Humidifier Jar

I recently seasoned my old desktop humi and headed over to Davidoff to purchase a new humidifier. They recommended the Xikar Crystal Humidifier Jar.

I hear a lot of talk about "beads" on these forums. The concept seems to be the same, except that Xikar (not surprisingly) advises you to use their PG solution to recharge the Crystals.

:baffled:

Anyone have any insight on all of this?

Should I ditch the crystal jar and order me-self some beads? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Peace

I do not know anything about the crystal jar, but the beads are the way to go as far as I am concerned. They raise and lower the humidity to the correct level (65% and 70% versions available). My coolidor with just the beads has stayed at 65% for as long as I can remember, just spray the beads with a little distilled water when it goes a few below 65%. If during the humid summers it starts to go to high take the beads out and dry them a little with a hair dryer. But that is the exception, most of the time it is rock solid.

the crystals are charged with 50/50 solution, so it is designed to keep your cigars at 70%. if you desire to keep your cigars at 60 or 65%, then you must go with the beads.

Beads!

I just started using the Beads when recomended by John51277 and have yet to regret--My humidors's, 1-200 and 1-50 stay at a constent 70 RH. With the Floral foam humi device it needed constant attention. You won't regret the Beads. The first month I started with the solution and now I use distilled water.

I started out with 65% at the suggestion of several very knowledgable folks, but I have found that I prefer 70% or maybe even a point or two higher. The cigars seem to age better, cut better and smoke better. Plus they have a much more "spongy" feel than at 65%. At 65% the cigars would tend to crackle when they were rolled between my fingers. Now they sound almost as if the leaves are brushing against each other.

Just my personal preference. I don't know what effect the ambient humidity (very dry out here) has.

Exclamation

All welcome.
Hiccup beads for my humidor - wanted to finally replace the green sponge. but only bought gel moisturizer: http://xikar.com/product_humidification.asp #
and a little mistake - it is up to 100 cigars, and my only humidor at 25 ((
I do not know what should I do (
Can I use them and how? As his fuelling? Whether to remove the gel filling out of the box?
Or better to feature all this and leave a sponge moisturizer?

Hey Igor you should be good. Up to 100 means just that. So it will work from 1 cigar to 100 cigars. So untill you get over 100 cigars you good.

Cool

I use the Xikar Jars in all my humidors and they work great no matter how many cigars are in them. In my 100 count box I use one and in my countertop display humidor I use two. Make sure you use solution to refill and not just distilled water.

Yes, but as his special blend of fuelling glycol? Disassemble, or pouring through the bars? How do I know that refill moisturizer?

PS
But I have humidor up to 25 cigars - he small! Or not important?
