What does everyone think of Thompson's humidors? I picked one up with 25 of their house brand (which seem to be pretty awful from what I've read here) for $30.

Re: Thompson humidors
What size is it? And more importantly, what's it made of?
I got my first spanish cedar humi from thompsons about 6 years ago and I haven't had any problems with it. Of course, you need to get a digital hygro to replace the fake analog one that comes with it. the humidifier disk will also need replacing every 6 months or so. Just be sure to season it properly and you should be ok. You can toss the house-brand cigars, by the way. Puro_Angler |

Re: Thompson humidors
I have their "cherrywood" 40 count desktop humi that came with 25 of their crap ass cigars. It has served me well for being my first humi. I have 30 or so cigars in there with a drymistat tube and its staying at 67-68%.

Does what it's supposed to do.

Re: Thompson humidors
I have a Thompson humi , better for storing accessories then cigars . Check my photo's in the personal gorilla galleries and you'll see that I have alot of humidification devices in it and I still have to refill it weekly . My other humi is a Savoy that works great . Get a new humi from somewhere else - Bargain humidors - cheap humidors and Cuban crafters are all recommended brands here in the jungle . Oh yeah , Welcome to the jungle !

If you are a regular smoker, you are going to find that quite small and upgrading in the near future. If budget permits, always try to buy at least 5x's larger than you think you need and trust me, that still will be outgrown eventually. If you are occasional smoker and don't intend on a large stock, you will do just fine with this one. How can you go wrong for the price? |

Also be sure and freeze those throw-ins from Thompson or else be prepared to reference my thread on tobacco beetles (which I started off wrong by calling my Thompson's JR's, sorry JR) http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=22460 Which I see you've already posted on. |

Re: Thompson humidors
I've got the same one as you. It does the job for me, though it is getting small. I replaced the hygrometer with a tube of beads and bought a digital hydro as the cheapo analog that came with the box was unreliable at best. Since then it holds humidity pretty well, even through our cold, dry winter. All in all, not a bad deal and I had lots of cigars to give away to my White Owl smoking friends, (they thought the Thompson's were good).

Re: Thompson humidors
what I did with my 40 count was I took out the analog and over the spot where it was located I velcroed by radio shack digital. Make sure you use enough velcro because the digitals are fairly heavy and you dont want it falling off the inside of the lid onto your cigars. I then took the analog and set it off in the corner of my humi kinda resting inbetween the side of the humi and on the cedar divider. It actually was only 1% off from my digital making it 4% off all together. But I cant complain with the humi I just have to make sure I fill the humidifier with distilled once a week and keep the drymistat filled and it holds 68% rh.

Re: Thompson humidors
I've had one of their 150s (with a view through top) for over a year and it's held steady with no problems. I and recommend buying a digital hygrometer.
Giving the Thompsons to White Owl smokers - now that's just a stroke of genius. ![]()
