Question about Spanish Cedar
Since I've never had any instruction on building Humidors. I was wondering how thick I should make the Cedar lining in my upcoming Humidors? I've been smoking cigars for about 9 years with my BIL but he has always kept the Cigars in his Humidor because we always smoked at his house. Now that i built a workshop at my house, we smoke at my house as well. Once I finish his Humidor I'll build a nice one for myself. (His is practice for mine)Anyone have any extra time lyin' around you don't need:support: Someday I might get good at this if I keep tryin.
BTW we had a couple AFs' and JD & Gingerail last night. This is what we do while our wifes study for nursing school. |

I would recommend contacting Eddie DeJong (Vanderburgh) at Vanderburgh humidors. It is an expert on this topic to say the least!

does anyone have an online source for Spanish Cedar. I have asked a few places by me and they all looked at me sort of funny. Aromatic cedar, yes Spanish Cedar, no.

You might call woodworkers source. They're a nation wide chain for exotic woods. The one here in Tucson is where I get most of my woods. The number is 520 745 8301. Ask for dick, tell him I sent you. There good peeps.

get it as quick as possible, countries all over central america are restricting the cutting of spanish cedar, hence some of the box shortages the industry has been seeing

Hi William,
a little late coming to this post... I would recommend going 1/4" Spanish Cedar or a Minimum 1/8. Any more than 1/4 - with my experience - and the moisture doesnt seem to penetrate any deeper. I get my Spanish from a local importer in Toronto - beautiful stuff, but tends to be fairly pricey. There are different grades of Spanish also, and it is hard to find info on the different species. I have found most Spanish that is sourced from South America seems to be good as long as it is kiln dried... Hope this helps. Eddie |
