Ideas
I need some thoughts on a possible project. I currently have 7 small-medium humidors/tupperdors and I want to consolidate. Instead of a traditional coolerdor I was thinking about using a military footlocker that I have. It's like a hard plastic/resin material. Here's the site. http://www.militarycases.com/Specifi...ductNum=iMTRLK
It has a tongue in groove closure, but no rubber seal. The internal dimensions are about 34.5L x 16.25D x 19H so it'll take about 1.5 lbs of Heartfelt beads to keep it going. It also has 2 removable trays that hang inside. Let me know if you guys like the idea or if you don't think it will work. Just looking for some feedback. Thanks! |

I think it will make a great humi....as long as it seals well. You could always and a little weatherstripping to help the seal out. Put in an Oust fan and your good to go.

If the seal isn't tight, a thin bead of silicon caulk in the bottom of the groove might do the trick. That thing looks like it would hold a lot of cigars!

I was thinking that or some small rubber tubing to go inside the groove. It's a little over 6 cubic feet inside so it'll hold everything I've got!

Also, what would you guys do as far as humidification? Beads or Oasis?

I would try it like it is for a while with beads and a fan. Then modify as needed.

I was thinking, if it doesn't seal well, use some rubber tubing in the groove and that should work out fine.

I put the rubber tubing in the seal and it is deffinitely going to hold humidity. I put a ton of oasis foam and about 1/4 pound of beads in there just to see if it would keep the RH up. When I checked this morning it wsa at 87%!

Try it without the rubber tubing. See what happens.

There aren't any smokes in it, lol. I was just testing to see if it will hold RH%. It just has some empty boxes and humidity foam in there right now. I'm not gonna put any smokes in it until I get more beads or an Oasis/Hydra unit. I hate the foam and won't use it.

That is going to make a great coolerdor/lockerdor. You can pack a bunch of cigars in that thing. Great Idea!!!

If you got to 87% overnight, you may want to leave the gasket (rubber tube) out or at least a couple of pieces of it. The beads are a must as they will add/remove humidity as required. You may want to drill some holes in the drawer bottoms, but probably not neccessary. Great idea!
