The Puck by Cigarmony

I wanted to spend a bit of time explaining how I retrofited my desktop humidor with The Puck humidification system by Cigarmony.

The Puck I chose was the Puck-100/70%
The Puck-100 is for a 100 count Humidor and keeps the humidor @ 70% relative humidity.

Step 1. Carefully remove the top of the Puck. You will notice a foam piece that covers the beads.
The beads will be a solid white crystal color.

Step 2. You will need to add distilled water to the beads. I used a small spray bottle to slowly mist the beads until all the beads were a clear color and almost had a gel look to them.

Step 3. Put the foam piece back on the top of the humidified beads and replace the cover.

Step 4. Use the provided velcro strips to mount the Puck to the top of the desktop lid.

Step 5. Relax these beads are going to hold the humidty to a perfect 70%

Watch the sap on the cedar, it will ruin your cigars! I once heard of a way to get rid of it but I can't remember! One time while working security at JRs I saw them heavily discount 50-100 humidors that had a serious sap issue. A guy bought like 20 of them and told me how to get rid of the sap. Never having been faced with the problem the information was overwritten some time ago!

I noticed this as well. I will contact the manufacturer http://www.havanachest.com who are the makers of it and ask them.

If anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Nice job documenting this process. I would suggest making one change to your process: Instead of wetting all the beads, only wet approximately 50-60% of them. This way the beads are able to absorb any excess humidity. The ability to absorb and release humidity is what makes the beads such a great method of humidification.

Very true. When I sprayed them with a light mist they quickly absorbed the humidity from the other. Kinda cool to watch.

I totally agree...it's really cool to watch them go from milky white to clear!

Agree bro.

That's way too much water Daniel. To dry the RH Beads, simply spread them on a cookie sheet and use a hair dryer set on low and watch them turn back to milky white.

Thanks for the review, very cool to see someone else's perspective!

BTW - I need a new digital camera Those pics are great!

I haven't tried the beads yet and will have to get some. Since they don't have any anti-bacterial agents in them, such as PG, I wonder how they prevent mold from forming. Perhaps it has something to do with the RH level?

You added way too much water. A general rule is 15 mL of water per pound of beads. I would also not recommend 70% beads. 60% or 65% work much better.

Mold won't form unless you add too much water to them.
