Expecting a load of premium cigars but...

Thanks guys for your suggestions as well as feedback regarding my "deal". :arghhhh: Well, in my eagerness to lock down my first purchase of cigars, I just realized my travel humidor isn't going to cut it. So now I'm quite worried that I may mess up a list of premium cigars before even getting to smoke them.

I have close to 150 cigars ranging from Enchantments to Anejos coming in on Sunday and need a temporary storage unit, the rubbermaid tupperdor.

Questions:

I have researched the forum regarding temporary storage, and I was wondering if a couple weeks would be okay in a rubber made -esque setting?

I would hate to ruin a few hundred bills worth of cigars due to ignorance.

Beads, seem to be a reoccurring them as well as distilled H20/ wet sponge. I'm guessing several of you guys will send me to my local b&m to get something to hold me over for the next couple weeks.

Amount of time. Seeing as Thursday night is as soon as I could set this up, will they be okay to put in the tupperdor come Sunday evening?

Again, I appreciate all the help, advice, and questions that I may not have brought up. Thankfully living in Tampa, it seems to always besomewhat humid so thats a plus.

Basically I have to build a nest before these babies arrive!

Also, I noted the bomb section and down the road am eager to bomb a couple fo you guys who I can tell put a lot fo effort in shaping us new...:errrr: , those just getting into cigar smoking. Like my soon to be fiance, I imagine I will enjoy this hobby until death do we part.

Thanks again, this time for helping me "protect" my investment!

Beads are good. 150 sticks are about 6 boxes worth. This may be your first big purchase, but it won't be your last.

Go out tonight and get yourself a real big cooler, the bigger the better 'cause you sound like the kind of guy who's gonna use it. If your getting the sticks loose, stop by a B&M and get a bunch of cigar boxes, preferably cedar. They will help hold the moisture. Pick up some kind of humidifier or credo while you're there to help keep things at a reasonable humidity until you get the beads or whatever final solution you decide on. When you get the cooler home fill it with a bleach/water solution and let it sit for a while to remove any plastic odor, then empty it out and put a box of baking soda in it for a day or so to clear out any lingering odors. When you can't smell anything put the humidifier in there for a day or so and you should be ready to add the sticks.

A few weeks in a tupperdore won't hurt anything as long as the sticks stay pretty constant. If they do dry out a little, a few weeks in your final setup will put them right. The trick is to avoid large swings in temp or humidity. Most times common sense will keep you safe.

Good luck. Hope this helps!

Also you can use the Boveda packets. They work very well in coolerdors and other plastic storage units. You can get them in 65 & 70%. Google Boveda.

The cigars will be fine in a rubbermade (tuperdor), as long as there is proper humidification. All you need to do is add the cigars then and add humidification.
It shouldn't take too long for the beads to get to you. I've ordered beads from heartfeltindustries and it took less than a week to get to me, which is damn fast for crossing the border into Canada!

may not need to say this (if you're anything like most of us, you can't keep your hands off them for more than a few days!) BUT - if you're storing "long-term" in a truly sealed system, like tupperware/cooler/ziplock/whatever (as opposed to a wooden humidor) be sure to open it periodically. You need a bit of air exchange...

Good luck with all that. One simple solution is to just smoke 'em all up and order more.

I'm currently running a tupperdor with 65% boveda. Works great, but I open it up every now and then.

I bought larger humidors so I could retire my tupperdors - yeah right. I emptied them out, and within a couple of weeks, I added more of them. I am now up to 6 tupperdors - each with it's own humidification system (Drymistats mostly) and a digital hygrometer. I check the humidity every day, and open them up for some fresh air like once a week. If you even think you might like collecting cigars, just forgo the smaller 300-600 chests and go straight to a tower that holds a couple thousand. You'll have to add those tupperdors back into the mix soon enough...
