Joe, mine too maintained a slight odor of plastic after a day of drying, I went forward anyhow, and good to go after I filled it w/boxes. I have 1/2 lb of beads (50 qt) at 70% and a wire rack/coated type shelf picked up at a local hardware store. Allows for breathing, so to speak and I added an air freshener fan just to be safe. Cant get the thing below 70%, but alls well so far. G'luck.

Chris, nice thread, thanx.

I 'accidentally' have a lot of cigars on their way to me, so it looks like I will need to build a coolidor this weekend. Why are coolers so stinking expensive??? ugh.... to wal-mart I shall go.

I've been looking into making one of these. These instructions are great. Very straight forward. Thank you very much. I look forward to getting my coolerador up and running.

I never use bleach in the cooler. You can scrub it with Bon Ami or baking soda, and set it out in the sun. A very light lemon juice to water mixture will also remove any smells. Pay attention to what kind of cooler you buy. Some have an open vent hole in the inside lid. Water and smells can get in there, and you will never get them out, Rubbermaid is like this. I use a 48 qt Coleman with a pound of Heartfelt beads, and it is pretty much maintenance free. Maintains a constant 69-70%.

Re: HOW TO: Build a Coolidor

Can someone help me out with this I'm starting to get my coolidor up and running and wanted to know if it was ok to us stainless steel racks instead of cedar I can't find cedar anywhere. If anyone knows where to find it let me know or if it's ok to you the stainless steel let me know.
