Emergency RH Drop

Here is the deal, Dr. Stogie Fresh just sent me a fine bunch of great smokes (thanks again David) and I put them in my Humi.

The RH last night in my area rose to about 90% and today was sitting at 80%. My Humi is also at 80%.

I have removed my beads from the humi and am trying to find a hair drier to dry them a bit.

When Doc packaged the bomb, he included a 2-way Humi Pouch called BÓVEDA set at 69% +/- 2

I have that pouch in the humi but have only gotten it to drop 5% to set at 75%

I will stay on it, but if anyone has any ideas to drop it to the 65% my beads are supposed to maintain, I will be happy to read them.

Note: I have had beads for a couple years now, and I have never had this issue before. Could my beads be "worn out"?

OK, I am feeling better, got my beads dried some, and the RH is slowly dropping, it is about 69 right now, so I am happy. Scared me there for a bit.

Good thing the beads worked. My heart started beating fast as I was reading that post. I can only imagine your sesne of urgency. Up here in the north hell... all we have to do is leave the humi open for say........ 10 seconds. Instant rh reduction. I can go from 72 to 44 in about 10 seconds flat.

Ain't it funny how our love of the leaf can get us all worked up like that.

It is doing good now, it leveled off at 69% and is hanging there. The Ambient RH here has dropped into the 40s now, so it should all equalize back to my steady 65% very soon.

I hated the thought that these phenomenal smokes Doc sent me could be harmed by my humi. But all is well.

Re: Emergency RH Drop

I always keep a big tupperware around for just such an occassion. Since its plastic and doesnt hold humidity it always makes a great "emergency" vessel to monitor the RH of just the cigars. That way theres no hurry when you need to partially dry out your beads and the wood in the humi.

Re: Emergency RH Drop

You make an excellent point on "ambient humidity!"

As the season changes, I'm finding that the beads have more to do with taking humity OUT than putting humidity IN!

Though I'm finding, also, that when I move my digital hygro from cooler to cooler for quick checks, those that are lower in temp read higher in RH.

Ahh well... Where's "Mr. Wizard" when you really need him!!??

Re: Emergency RH Drop

Just an update if you want to know. My humi has leveled off at 71% after several hours of sitting with the lid shut. Since the ambient RH has dropped here, I am opening the humi now every 30 minutes for about 5 minutes at a time. I am hoping that this will lower the RH back to 65% where I like it.

That being said, I am not going to smoke any of these wonderful Stogies for a few days to let them establish a RH that is to my liking.

Gonna be hard to resist that VSG, but I know my patience will pay off.
