Do they maintain a steady RH level?

I recently ordered a half-pound of the 65% beads from Heartfelt. When the package arrived about 30% of the beads were 'dust'. They were unusable. I posted this on a CL thread and was told to contact David, the representative for HeartFelt.

When David heard of my situation he shipped me out another half-pound of the 65% beads. It didn't matter that the damage was probably done during shipping, he mailed me another order, right away.

hoohoo:

This is the type of company you want to do business with.

Not only would I not purchase beads from anyone other than Heartfelt, but I wouldn't take someone else's beads for free.

I have to agree with cybervee. When I first got my 70% beads from David at Heartfelt I was worried that they weren't maintaining the 70% RH. He sent me a Boveda calibration kit at no charge and I tested all of my hygrometers and and it turns out all was ok. I like the fact that you just add distilled water. I don't want to mess around with PG solution. All my humidors now maintain a steady RH. I have ordered again since then and will probably be needing another humidor or tupperdor in the coming year and will definitely be getting the beads from Heartfelt.

Everyone needs to do what they feel is right for them, but I would never skimp to save $5 on something as important as my humidification. I have way too much money invested in sticks to get anything less than the best protection for the money.

Quoted for ABSOLUTE truth!

I also use about double what the minimum requirement is. Why waste time worrying about humidity? Go smoke!

I have only used Heartfelt and Mark's Pucks but I am sure these are similar. They don't soften. They are not gel. They will be white when there is no water left and semi-clear when hydrated. Just leave a little bit white when adding distilled water and you are good to go.

Another good point about digital hygrometers is that most are off but repeatable. I have two different kinds and have found one brand to be about 9% high at cigar storage levels and the other about 5% high. I test these against a Set-and-Forget system I have in my cabinet. I have its calibration checked every other year against NIST standards. Once you know how much it is off it is just simple math to determine the real humidity level or you could get an adjustable type.

The beads that I was refering to on my last thread were not from Heartfelt. The were from "humidorbeads.com. The beads do not change from the hard state when water is added. They don't appear to do anything.
As to the question "do they maintain humidity" Well I can not see any difference from the beads, and a cup of water. When water is out, of course the humidity will go down. Again the beads act like they are made of plastic, and do not change at all when water is added.

Paesano - I have thought about calling "humidorbeads.com" Frankly, I feel it would be a waste of time. Either the beads work, or they do. I am using distilled H20 - I am using them like I would the Heartfelt produce. Humidorbeads product, is a rip. Their product does not change at all with water - or without.
The owner of Humidorbeads visits this site. He responded when someone was wanting to buy his product, but has not responded to this blog.
