How To: Custom Bead holder
Materials:
Beads Stock Humidification device from your humidor Super-glue Metal Splash guard for pots an pans (available at wal-mart for cheap) Exacto knife or other sharp blade Step 1: Gather materials. ![]() Step 2: take apart your "Green foam" holder. Remove the Green Foam. ![]() Step 3: place one side of the holder on your splash guard and cut around it ![]() Step 4: Cut a line on each corner and bend the edges up slightly. I was able to get by with just bending it but cutting woudl be better Step 5: Wedge the piece into the holder. ![]() Step 6: Add Beads Step 7: Super glue the holder back together. ![]() Step 8: Let it air dry and lose any fumes that exist from the glue. Step 9: Add water and replace in the humidor. ![]() There you go It's as easy as pie. Enjoy a few cigars for a job well done! :teacher: I originally worried about rust but there haven't been ANY problems in over a year so it should be all good. |

Great stuff Chris.
Another option along the same lines: Some of the humidifiers have the plastic mesh material in them and if you glue that in place it will work just as well. A hot glue gun seems to work the best with this stuff. |

i'll be headin out here shortly for some beer for the game today. i'll be sure to stop by wal-mart and get a splash guard. this is clearly better than the green foam...right?

I don't think 'clearly' is enough of an understatement...

1 quick Q - the splash guards are metal - anyone know if they're aluminum/stainless? Just thinking about the chance of rust developing, since they'll constantly be in a humid environment... OR, am I just being a dumbass?
I replaced a few screens on our porch and have several feet of that nylon coated stuff left over I was planning on using when the time comes...

Since you can't see the beads, do you just use the hygrometer to decide if it needs re-wetting?

im just joking. I've been checking them about once every 3 or 4 months. With constant humidity for about a year now they are in tip top shape. no rust at all.that nylon stuff will probably work as long as the beads don't fit through the holes. as far as the question about re-wetting goes, Just like you said i use the hygrometer. when it goes down a little I re-wet. You can also tell by the fact the beads start to move around a little more when you shake the holder. |
