Moist-n-aire humidifier- can I save it?
Rhonda and I bought a used cabinet humidor a month ago, and this Moist-n-aire humidifier was inside. The lady I bought it from explained that she had the humidor cabinet custom built for her husband, who passed away years ago. She was using the cabinet as furniture (pics on this thread). Although the cabinet is absolutely beautiful, it's not sealed very well and I'm guessing this Moist-n-aire had to keep running. The reservoir tank was covered in a crystallized substance, and had corroded from whatever crystallized with the metal. I cleaned it out with CLR and it appeared to be pretty clean, but it leaks out the bottom. Also, the cork plunger that lets you know when the water level is low rotted away. I can find a cork pretty easily and put that back together. But I'm not sure if it's worth it to try and reseal the metal reservoir and try to salvage this thng. When I plug it in, the fan seems to work fine. I tried to look up Moist-n-aire to get parts, but I don't find much. I'd probably have to contact dealers who sell these until I find one that can get parts. If I did manage to seal up the reservoir, would it be worth the risk to put this back in duty? It still smells like whatever was crystallized and caked on all over the thing. Any opinions?

Hell, $2 worth of JB Weld would fix that in a minute. It's worth a shot and couldn't hurt anything.
Seal it and run it for a while to try and get the crystalized smell out of it. I imagine they weren't using distilled water when they ran it, which is why the crystals probably built up.

don't waste your time. the moist n aire is made for a larger humidor. the humidity will either get too high or too low. you will never be happy. buy either beads, oasis xl, and or hydra.
seal the cabinet real well.

A good active system will cost about the same as a few premium cigars. Don't cinch on your humidification system. Throw it out and start over.
BTW - Beautiful humi. |

I see what you're doing!!

Instead of throwing it away, ask Dan & Lynn if they might be able to make use of it... <G>

Larger humidor like how large? Like a converted closet, large like that? Just curious.

I talked to the owner of the company one day. She is a second or third generation owner of the company. If i remember correctly, it is made for a 4'x8'by 2' humi. If you send the unit back to them they will rebuild it for $80.00. just remeber that there is no digital controls for that unit.
