Hygrometers

I'm looking to start expanding from the two crappy 20 count humidors and two tupperdors I have, and I figured it'd be nice to start checking what humidity/temp my cigars are sitting at, instead of just letting my beads go at it, so I've been doing some research on hygrometers.

It looks like the Western Caliber III digital hygrometer is pretty popular; it's cheap and supposedly pretty accurate. I've been looking around though, and wanted to see what people thought of this. It comes with one remote sensor, and you can buy two more, and the sensors reports temperature and humidity back to the main unit. It's also relatively cheap, and has the advantage of being able to easily monitor multiple humidors (or multiple locations inside one) without having to open up the humidor and disturb the temperature/humidity inside.

Honeywell is a great brand. I would go with it. Good price too with all of those features.

Hmm, I read the reviews more closely and it looks like there's a lot of issues with that hygrometer, and it's most likely nowhere near accurate enough for our purposes (more for watching weather than accurately measuring humidity).

Anyone know of any good places to buy the Western Caliber? It looks like it goes for $25 shipped most places, so unless anyone knows of any great deals (or happens to have extras lying around they need to get rid of), I guess I'll be buying one of those soon.

I have nearly a dozen of these Fluker hygrometers - thanks to Ceedee for recommending them to me a while back. Best price I've found is $13.12 from ReptileSupply.

Are they accurate? I keep hearing that the Western Caliber is the most accurate hygrometer available.

EDIT: I did some searches and it seems you and CeeDee really like that Fluker hygrometer. Have you guys tested it against others or with any salt tests or Boveda calibration kits? If yes, I'm definitely ordering some of those.

EDIT again: Damn, the shipping is $8 on the Fluker's on that site. I guess I'll just wait till I have a chance to check out a pet store and see if I can find one.

These work well and you can even calibrate them, which you cannot do on the other hygrometers.

I hope you find what you need,
Don

I'd like to find a good wireless one, but they seem hard to come by.

I have the round one. Did the salt test and it was right on the money. I'm very happy with it.

I have both of these units. They work very well. I have them placed in a couple areas in my walk-in and also use them in my towers. I also have a larger DeltaTrak for my walk-in, which has a remote sensor, so I can place the digital readout on the outside of the room, but it is hardwired. When I looked into the wireless units, the accuracy range was pretty wide - until you reach the higher priced units.

Damn Mike. I saw some on eBay but I haven't been able to buy them because ****** would only ship to the billing address on my credit card, and that's my home, not college apartment, address.

Stig, look on ebay. I got my last one for $9 plus $2 shipping.

They are dead balls-on for temp and RH, btw. I recommend them highly.

Check out this ebay listing (my purchase). The same guy sells a bunch of these at $9.99: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=370015741599

Here is a new listing:
Flukers-Thermo-Hygrometer

CD

Edit: I missed your last post on ebay and your ****** confirmed address. I can tell you that the Flukers are in virtually every pet store in the reptile/amphibian section. They cost like $20 though...
