Humidity Problems

Well I got my hygrometer yesterday and have let it sit in my humi for over 24hrs now. It is pegged on 59%. Right now i have the humi-care jar of crystals (70%). Not sure what to do? I ordered the humidi puck in hopes for some different results (couldn't order beads because i have an issue with ****** or i would have done that). Any suggestions?

Don't assume the humidity is wrong, first assumption is that the hygrometer is wrong. Mine reads about 7% high. Do a salt calibration test, search the forum for "salt test" and there should be a thread about it.

Re: Humidity Problems

Are you sure your hygrometer is calibrated correctly? It could be giving you a false reading.

EDIT: A long with the salt test you could try wrapping the hygrometer in a damp paper towel for 30-45 minutes. If its accurate it should read 100% anything less than that you know how much it is off by. Very few hygrometers are perfect out of the box and need to calibrated.

Re: Humidity Problems

Make sure the hygrometer is reading correctly and also make sure the beads are saturated with DISTILLED water only.

I'm using the humi-care jar with crystals right now, and i just used plain ole tap water. Should i go out and get some distilled water and put in there.

i could be wrong, but i think you may have done some permanent damage by using tap water.. ULTIMATE no no with cigars..

say it along with me..."I will ONLY use distilled water..."

i could be wrong, as i said before. but as far as i know, tap water is no good!

I think you still need to check the hygrometer. Tap water is bad because as the water dries, it will leave behind minerals. Over time, the buildup can play havoc with your humidifying device. Distilled water will leave no residue as it dries.

So tap water should work fine in the short term, if you haven't been doing it for long, that won't explain the discrepancy.

Re: Humidity Problems

Not sure, it's an older one my grandfather gave to me. It had been sitting around his house for a few years unused.

Re: Humidity Problems

Tap-water is your problem. I was speaking with Viper139 and he mentioned that his beads clog up and wont work correctly without the use of distilled water. Hopefully next bacth youll use distilled water!
