Bulk and box storage question

For those of you who have cabinets, do you store your full boxes sealed or do you crack them so the cigars can breathe inside the humidor? I'm wondering if the advantage is to keep them sealed as long as possible in their original box so they continue to age in that specific environment or will they age better if they can breathe with the humidor?

If the boxes are left sealed, can the cigars still expel any ammonia build up?

Does leaving the boxes sealed protect any possible spreading of tobacco beetles from one box to another?

Open. I generally unwrap the boxes so I can inspect before I put them in the cabinet. I alsi leave them cracked a little

Proper temperature and humidity are of course the key elements in maintaining full boxes. The cigar distributors are storing sealed full boxes, wrapped in cello for years or more with no problems, mainly due to the controlled enviroment.

also, if I find I have too many singles of one manufacturer, I go to the B&M and dig through the pile of boxes. I put the empty box in the cabinet for 3 days before I put smokes in it to store...

I asked the same question to Doc of Stogie Fresh

He told me that if the box has a humidor quality seal, use a small piece of Spanish cedar to break the seal.

Do you plan on aging the cigars five years or longer?

Beatles should not be a problem if you keep the temp under 80 degrees

Good luck
Speedy
