I'm almost done. Should be a week of finish as of tomorrow. To do the finish properly it takes a total of about 2 weeks. 8 coats of Tung oil 24 hrs apart and hand rubbed before each coat, 4 coats of Minwax paste wax. Then a few secret ingredients and whalla! It'll be ok for the camera by tuesday though. I like this lil one. Thanks everyone for the kind words. You all make this fun. Wish we could all get together and empty one of my Humis'. After this I have to finish a Jewelry Box and 2 segmented turnings. When I'm done with those though, I'm building a Humidor for myself. (Gotta quit gettin rid of em' and keep one):errrr:

Do you find any particular wood best to work with?
I really like most any wood with lots of figure. Some woods with figure have iridescence like quilted maple or curly maple. Others have a sophistication like Elm Burl or Burl wood Walnut. That's the beauty of working with wood, there's endless colors and figures to choose from. I use many, many different kinds to achieve a certain look. This Humidor, when finished will have Figured Bubinga, Quilted maple, Bloodwood, Gabon Black Ebony, Mahogany, Carpathian Elm Burl and of course, Spanish Cedar.

Well, I had a little problem with the lid. When I vacuum pressed the veneer to the lid it cracked in the middle. It ended up being a blessing though. I ended up doing the lid in several types of wood. I think it turned out much better than the original plan. I'll get pics tonight and post tomorrow.

I'd like to ask you guys something. The piece of cedar I have for the lid has a knot in the middle but it has beautiful figure around it. Should I use it or stay with straight grain? I'd be curious to see how the figure will look after years of use. As the cedar darkens it should look beautiful.

Ran out of Cedar last night. I'll get some more today and try to finish up in a day or 2.

Thanks lopan. It's actually A double, double, box joint. This is a structural joint to create as much area for the glue joint as possible. It just happens to look neat.
