USB Hygrometer / Thermometer
just saw this:
http://the-gadgeteer.com/review/bran...nd_thermometer ![]() Apparently this little baby will measure the humidity and temperature and record it on your pc, the bad news is that it has to be hooked up to the pc (so you would have to drill a hole in your humi to run the usb cable). This guy that reviews it does not give it rave reviews, but i think perhaps he has not calibrated the varied hygros he has. just saw it an thought someone may be interested. |

Thats pretty cool. You could probably modify the USB cable so it will lay flat, that way you can close the lid on it like you would for a CO cable.

Wireless USB should be out in the next year. this would be an awsome product if it follows the technology.

that would be pretty nice. you would be able to check your humidity and temp without ever having to open your humi. plus, you could possible chart both humidity and temp to see how stable your humidor really is.

If you have a HUGE walkin like LkyLindy and your computer is inside your humidor...well then it's perfect. Unfortunately, I can barely get a camera into mine.

The real advantage here would be the ability to automatically track your data, and that only when the ability to add a wireless monitor. You can buy a cheap weather station with a wireless remote sensor now, and most will track the rh and temp for a few days, but having that data automatically saved to your pc for say a year could give some real insight, particularly for the walkin and shop owner.

We use HOBOs at work some times and they seem to work pretty good.
http://www.onsetcomp.com/products/data-loggers/u10-003 http://www.onsetcomp.com/products/software/bhw-lite Package deal for $99: http://www.microdaq.com/occ/u10/u10-003.php They are only +/-3.5%RH but not bad. You can buy replacement humidity sensors for pretty cheap too.

I have a unit purchased from radio shack that takes input from three different sensors - it is pretty accurate (have Western Cal3 to verify). Only draw back is I am limited to three so, can't remotely check all the humidors. I just use this for my box storage coolers. Need to shop for upgrade to increase number of metering points.... I do not see what tracking data long term would accomplish - weather patterns seem to be changing every year so you would get limited predictive use. Guess if you tracked numerous other parameters one could examine efficiency of controlled climate systems :baffled: But then again - I am anal, so I might do this. :imconfused: |
