too much humidity
Too much in the freakin' coolador! I don't know what to do, it's reading at like 80. I'm trying to keep the temp really low so I can make an attempt not to get beetles. Please help me with this I don't know what to do.

Well, I'd just leave the lid open for a bit. The RH around NY is only about 16% right now, so it should drop fairly fast. Then get some RH beads!

1. Remove About 10% Of Your Cigars
2. Send Them Via USPS To ArrowJ 3. Watch The RH Drop! or Open it for a little while each day until it drops, but only for a few minutes (30?) each day. If you start at 80% and wait till it hits 70% all at once you might do some harm...better safe than sorry. Post Script: I like the three step process better. |

dont worry about beetles, beetles wont come from too much humidity, just from too much warmth.

The cigars all feel fine, so I don't think I have a major problem. My room is pretty humid(I have a cold my nose is completely dry, I need the humidity) but is it possible my savoy humidifier is too big for my 50 qt cooler? I mean i think if I have more cedar boxes and sticks it might suck up some humidity. What do you guys think about that theory?

Just curious...what are you using for humidification?
During the humid periods during late spring and summer, the beads have worked great to keep my humidity stable. Once I had to dry them out a bit because they become super saturated, but a quick trip in a low temp oven dried them out enough to be able to absorb more humidity. Edit...just read the part about the savoy humidifier....try the beads. |

Looks like you are on the right track. All I can say is beads and calibrate your hygrometer.

1.) Calibrate your digital hygrometer (see "salt test") 2.) Remove whatever humidifier you have in it currently 3.) If the RH is still too high, open the lid and see if that reduces it. (If your ambient RH is too high, then this won't help) 4.) Pick-up some RH Beads and add them dry to absorb the excess RH. I hope this helps ~Mark |

Even at 80% your cigars will be fine. I would certainly open the lid like others have said until the humidity drops. But, French cigar smokers smoke most of their cigars at about 75-80%...so it's not unheard of. If you feel the cigars are too wet you can always dry box them for a couple hours before smoking them.
