hydra vs cigar oasis

Alright.. I want to know the down low on all the pros and cons on these two humidifiers..

I saw the new hydra and checked around regarding the CO, but am still not getting the clear picture from people..

My new box is close to 20 X 24 X 18... I just want to see what people think about the two (or for that matter, anything else of quality for this size)..

I am going to use beads with whatever I purchase..

Thanks in advance!!

OK, here we go:

I bought a cabinet humidor:

I use the Hydra in it. It works well keeping it humidified, but I have to fill it up every 5th week or so. So I put some beads in the top lid:

and a beads tube on the second shelf. This system is working for me. I just put the beads in the other day. These pictures are not accurate representations of what is in there now (the bottom level is a little on the packed side).

I bought an extra reservoir for the hydra, and keep it full and sealed, so I just have to switch them out.

I have calibrated the hydra, and it keeps the humidor at a nice 66% RH, with little recovery time. One think I don't like about the hydra is it seems to have gotten louder.

Now, for a box the size you are talking about, I have this:

This is one of my testerdors. I keep that one at 67 % RH. It works very well keeping this box humidified, and it is battery or pluggable powered. It is the Oasis Ultra.

I have an Oasis II in my cabinet. Even with the two extra fans it couldnt keep the whole thing even. I added beads and it evened right out. Doogie466 had an Oasis in his Humi and ended up switching over to beads. No matter what you decide get some beads to go with it.

I have both and I like the Cigar Oasis best. It's a smaller unit so it fits better in my humidor, and, the power supply is about a third the size of the one for the Hydra.

With the Hydra, you also have to be careful that you don't put the power ribbon into the wrong slot. You can damage the electronics if you do.

All in all, I'll buy more of the Cigar Oasis humidifiers. They're well made and dependable, and, unlike the Hydra, you can power the unit with the battery pack that snaps onto the bottom of the Cigar Oasis for those times when you're travelling.

I hope you have a fine evening and that you enjoy an even finer smoke.

Be well,
Don

I have both and they both work well....one big beef about the hydra is that when the power goes off it shuts off and you have to push a button to get it going again.

This has happened twice at my house so far. It is inconvenient because you have to re-adjust everything. For me it is a 4 day process (I'm a little on the extreme side)

I have 2 ultra's like Ron that I love, I also have a Hydra in my 250ct with 2 extra fans that works flawlessly. IMO I think the hydra works a little bit better than the Oasis plus. Thats just me though.

Its in the "build" stage right now.. I went hunting for spanish cedar in Los Angeles and felt like I had to rob a bank for the prices.. Man, its expensive!!

Not only that, but seeing all the great wood (Koa was da bomb, but I cheesed) got me thinking about a grand project.. I spent more money on wood..

Unlike William Wyko, Cypress, Aristocrat humidors, and others, I will be taking it nice and slow (I don't want to f-up the new money pit)..

Just wanted to get the DL on the systems.. More money..

Its should hold about 3-400 unboxed (I usually keep robustos and under), and maybe a box or two..
