New Otterbox Rituals?

I'm about to be a first-time newb owner of an Otterbox any day now. I'm curious if anybody cares to share any "preferred rituals," short of attending a Santeria initiation, for the Ultimate Club Stogie Preparation...? No holds barred...

Re: New Otterbox Rituals?

I dont really have a ritual, but when i got mine i filled the hydration unit and let it sit. I repeated this a few times just incase the foam insde were to absorb some humidity. In addition to that i put in a few pieces of spanish cedar veneer (cut down from what i got in 5 packs of cigars) I just pushed it tight against the sides of the container and use the foam to hold it in place.

Thats about it for me.

On occasion a put a hydrometer in there to make sure ive still got a good seal. (I have the 15 stick model)

Re: New Otterbox Rituals?

just keep the humi unit filled with beads, then let it sit constantly charged so that its ready to go when you need it.

you dont really need to check the seals etc, otterboxes are very well made.

Put some cigars in it and take them with you wherever you go. It seals air tight so just add a few beads, or a little water to the hydration foam and your good to go.

Re: New Otterbox Rituals?

Pretty much already summed up. I just spray some distilled water on the humi patch and let it sit. Every now and then I throw the digital hydro in there to make sure everythings good to go...and it is. Keeps a real good seal. Just keep it out of the sunlight when it's full of cigars

This is good stuff! I have open bids on both an Otter-box and a Herf-A-Dor (C-Bid, of course. Don't go out bidding me now...)

Is one better than the other; Herf-A-Dor vs Otter-Box? Onyone, anyone, Buler... Buler...

Re: New Otterbox Rituals?

I have received otter-boxes that smelled funky from the foam releasing chemicals from manufacturing. I like to leave them open for a while, potentially up to a week, to air out until I can no longer smell any residue. It's a good idea to put it in a place where new odors cannot be absorbed, of course.

I put a couple cigars in it. Went somewhere. Opened it up and smoked the cigars.

Hey Vince, It seems we had the same question. It was summed up well here
http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=19383

I have both and think for the $ the HaD is a good deal. The Otter is better built though.

This is great advice. I've got a 5 ct and a 25 ct Otterbox. I used to keep beads inside, but the cigars always seems too moist to smoke. Since they're so airtight, I just pop a few cigars into each and smoke once I'm where I'm going. Seems to work for me.

Re: New Otterbox Rituals?

I used a PG/distilled water mix. And not too much either. These things are airtight and don't need much moisture. They work great. I took mine for a month in Costa Rica and a couple weeks in Guatemala, worked perfectly both times. Had a bit of trouble gettng the sucker open after depressuring and repressuring of the flight in the hold. The bigger ones have a release valve. No matter, they work great.

Hey Doc, there is a place by one of the latches to insert a coin for easy depressurization on the smaller ones.
