New Fridgadore Up and Running

After reading several posts about fridgadores, I decided that's what I needed. I live in south Texas and the temperature in my house runs around 78F to 80F during the summer (which is most of the year). So I bought a Vinotemp 28 and spent about 2 months getting it ready for service.

It took almost a month to get the plastic odor down to the point that I was willing to begin putting cigars in it. Then I spent a couple of weeks buildling cedar drawers and shelves. I'm using one pound of 65% Heartfelt beads for humidity control. I may change these out to 70% but have not decided to do that yet.

I've had cigars in it for about a month now and it is working out great. The temperature is steady at 67F. There is some humidity variation from top to bottom but it generally runs around 66% to 69%. Humidity should be more stable with more cigars so I may have to go on a shopping spree.

I've posted some pics to show the end result. There are 3 drawers and 2 shelves. The last pic shows how I extended the bottom of the drawers to slide into the grooves in the side of the fridge.

Excellent work, Allen! We've been too lazy to put nice shelves in ours and still just have the ugly wire wine bottle shelves it came with. One of these days. Looks like you've got your's rockin' though!

Put a small fan or two in to equalize the humidity

I agree that the beads need another container but this is working for now. I may need a mesh of some kind so that when they do spill, they won't go everywhere.

I do not claim to be much of a cabinet maker but am pleased with how the drawers turned out. The fit is not perfect but I had nothing to go by. They are glued together and have no nails. The glue was low odor and did not seem to be a problem.
