Mold In My Humi

Well I was out of town for a couple weeks and when I got home I went to refill my humidor. Humidity was holding fine, I use a diamond crown humidifier. Well when I removed the humidifier there was green mold on the lid where the back of the humidifier is very close to the wood. I wiped it all off as best as I could but there is nothing to adjust in order to close up the back of the humidifier. Should I duct tape the holes on the back or something in order to prevent this from happening?

I don't think you need to cover those holes with anything, Matt. That humidifier was designed that way.

The problem may have been that the temperature inside your humidor was too high when you discovered the mold.

If you keep the humidity level at 70 percent or less (such as at 65 percent) and if you ensure that the temperature is no higher than 70 degrees Fahrenheit inside your humidor, then the conditions won't be favorable for the mold to grow.

It may be that you'll have to move your humidor to a cooler place in your home.

I hope it all works out for you.

Enjoy your smokes and have a fine week,
Don

I know you are not supposed to use a 50/50 solution in the Diamond Crown humidification system, but you should have something with the 50/50 in it in your humidor. It kills mold spores.

I know we try to use the A/C sparingly in my house to conserve energy/money, so my humi is at 64% at the moment and I haven't seen any mold yet even though room temp is usually at 76 degrees. I really don't know anything about the diamond crown humidification system though so do whatever feels best to you. I can completely sympathize the North Texas weather with you.
