Building a walk in humidor

I've done some searching on the forum and cannot find this related topic. If there is such a thread, please let me know. Otherwise, let's start one now.

I have interest in building a walk in humidor and I am in the process of getting quotes from contractors. I would like it done right, so I've been searching all over the internet for the appropriate information. I understand vapor barriers are essential, galvanized hardware, lighting is crucial, etc... I would love to touch upon all topics related to building a walk in humidor (in my basement).

If you are aware of any suppliers or builders (especially when it comes to spanish cedar) please leave that info as well. All suggestions and information is greatly appreciated.

Rob... I know that Chuck (ylo2na) has one and I'm sure there are others around out there that have. I also found this site a while back too...

One thing I would use is the mold-free sheet rock.

If I were you, have Tyvek on the wood frames and then on top of that use the hard sheet rock for bathrooms. Build it sort of like a bathroom. My only question is how you are going to humidify the room? The door is going to be fun to frame. Weather strips are probably going to be needed if your GC's can't get the door seal to be as small as possible.

Well good luck. Take pictures of the progress since I want to look at it. This is going to be interesting.

Any chance you have a B&M near you that has a walk-in? Try consulting with them, they should be able to help you.

A video / Photo documentary of the progress would be very insightful!

I have Bob from Aristocrat do all my work, whether it be the walk in in my shop, member lockers or armoires he si your man. I am sure it would be a good idea to call him and have him at least supply the spanish cedar for walls and shelves as well as the electronics.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll keep everyone updated. Start date probably will not be until September. I found a company in Miami with supplies at a more reasonable cost than others I've seen so far. www.woodprojections.com

Update: I found a decent company for humidification hydrofogger.com. I will have about 500 or so cubic feet so I'll be using the minifogger. Now I need to research some reverse osmosis filtration. Send me a heads up if anyone knows of a really good one.
