I'm going to start another Humidor, wanna help?

I'd like you guys to help me build and design a Humidor. It can't be too big because of the area I have to work in, so keep it to A desk top size. Let me know if there's an exotic wood you like or certain features that appeal to you. Also let me know if there's a type of joinery that you like. If you like, go to www.veneersupplies.com and check out their veneers and let me know if something really stands out. I'll also take some pics of woods I already have. I don't know how long it'll take, but it'll be interesting to see where we go with this. Once we get a majority of features, designs and woods I'll make a poll to narrow it down. This is not for profit, just for fun. Of course, only if this is ok with the Moderators.

Anyone interested?:errrr:

Just the 3 or 4 that I posted here You might check my preious threads I started. I own a Car Stereo and Off Road shop. I just do this as A hobby. I will sell pieces, but I just build what I feel for the most part.

BTW`I put this in the wrong place. It was supposed to go in storage. Could a Moderator please move it.

Thanks,

Ok you asked for it so here goes LOL.
Red gum body with either Maple(Quilted) or Myatoa panels on top, sides, and front. Purple Heart (I think I have seen you use it before) inlay boarder insie the panles and some kind of Purple Heart and Red Gum inlay design on top and/or front. I put something together real fast in Paint just to give you some kind of idea as to what I was talking about. And of course some old school Dovetail joints

After seeing your work Bill I do not think I could even get close to what your workmanship is shown us here in the past. I do like the idea of inlaying the top and sides as frank has shown and the joinery you do is just outstanding.

Would enjoy displaying one of your humi's thats for sure--Very good detailed workmanship bud---I am in the process of trying my hand at building one and the woods I'll be usuing are teak, cedar and Spanish cedar for lining.

If you could suggest to me any ideas they would be greatly appreciated though....

Nice design. I like the idea of contrasting colors on the sides as well as the top.

As far as your wood choices go, Teak to me is wonderful. I built my kitchen out of Teak. When you cut it, it's like cutting leather with sharp shears. What kind of tools do you have to work with? do you have a router table?

A buddy of mine has his own cabinet shop and told me he'd walk me threw the process--he has everything I would need---He does have a Router table and several different types of routers from laminates to the big boyz---Why do you ask about the table? Maybe something with the tongue & grove aspect--You have to excuse me as I'm an electrician and not a very good wood worker---LOL

Love the look, and purple heart is always pretty to use. As far as the maple goes I have always been a fan of curly maple and cherry. for joinery like this dovetails are always interesting but Half blind dovetails are really striking and give the front and back that really clean look.

Great. Ask him if he has an Incra Jig. That is the tool I use to make the double 1/2 blind dove tails. It's a router fence that will give you specific cut incraments so all the pieces will line up. If he does, I'll help you with some details that will make it easier and ways to get better results than the instructions will tell you.

As far as this project goes, I'll post some pics of woods I have and let you guys pick what you like.

I like the Mappa (Burl). To me it stands out because it seems a bit different than the cherry colored burl you usually see. I am personally new to humidors, I have a small humi that holds about 30 cigars, so this is just my opinion!

Wow, I think it's really cool you actually make humidors!
