Just ordered a new humidor

My humidor is getting close to bursting at the seams. So, I just ordered a 300count from cheaphumidors.com. It's called the Ravello. I got it in the imperfects section for about $20 less than the "perfect" one. I hope their isn't a giant scratch across the front of it or nothing. Next I'm gonna order some more beads and I already have a spare digital hygometer to throw in it. Now I just have to find a way to fill it and I'll be set!

Does anyone have any experience with the imperfects from cheaphumidors?

I just got it in yesterday. I can't find a mark on it anywhere, it's supposed to be a imperfect. I started seasoning it right away so hopefully it will be ready soon. I checked the RH earlier and it was at 85% with 2 tea cups and 1 shot glass of distilled water in it.

The only thing is there is a weird smell inside it. It is all spanish cedar lined and the trays and dividers are spanish cedar as well. It smells almost like glue or maybe lacquer. There is no visible glue or lacquer on the inside or glue on the outside. I'm hoping that the smell is just from it being new.

Is that a normal smell from a new humidor?

I have the same one. There was a small touch of "weird smell" at first, but it went away. I use the Oasis ultra (the small electronic one) and it has been great. I use it as my testerdor, and it is packed.

It's possible that the lacquer coat gave off an odor when it was boxed to ship. Lacquer will dry very fast but it will still have a lingering odor for a while after it's applied. I would recommend letting the humidor breathe by leaving it open for a while. If that odor gets into your cigars, you'll have a disaster on your hands.

Thanks for the fast response! I was a little worried about the smell. As long as it goes away and doesn't affect my smokes it's fine by me.

I don't think I would put any cigars in it till the smell went away.

Absolutely! I, too, have plenty of spare space in the coolidor-in case you need some off site storage ( =

That looks like it will be a nice humidor once it's up and running! Just looked on their page, pretty sharp. I wish I had bought one with a tray! that guy looks like it will be good to help organize your sticks.

Maybe you now know why it was imperfect
