Hhahahah I Really Goofed

I was out in my shop getting ready to turn on the band saw to slice up some Rosewood. I reached down to turn on the dust collector and forgot I gave my BIL the collection bag for fertilizer. My face was right next to it. When it kicked on w/o the bag, it covered me like I was rolled in oil and dipped in flower. I just had to laugh. Blew myself off, turned on the air filter system and went back to work. I just had to share that. It was frickin hilarious. I wish I would have taken a picture. It'll be a nice humidor when I'm done, with a funny little story to go with it.

Like the finest Spanish Cedar with a hint of Honduran Rosewood and a touch of Burlwood Walnut, finished off with a splash of highly figured Sen. To bad it can't be rolled into a cigar and smoked.

That is something to laugh about. It could always be worse.

I was building my shelves for my Vinotemp humi today and was cutting the boards with another board on top of it to help prevent splintering. I made the cut and turned off the table saw. I got a little ahead of myself and went to pull the boards off ( I just ran it through until made the full cut) and one board kicked back and hit me in the chest and another hit me a little to close for comfort. Believe it when I say I took my time the rest of the way through.

Maybe I should have had MtMouse build them for me.:mumbles:

If you don't mind me giving you a little advice. I beg you, give that table saw the utmost respect. That is the one tool that will never respect you. I was a framer for 8 years and done many other types of wood work for over 30 years. I've cut myself, nailed myself, routed the end of a finger off (it grew back) had a blade come off and climb my body but the one thing that scared me worse than anything else in my wood working life, was when I touched the side of the blade on the table saw. Nothing happened to me, not even a scratch. The thing that scared me was that in that moment, I had to look to see if I had all my fingers. I'm very glad for you that you weren't hurt bad. I never want to hear you lost a finger though. Respect that tool every time you turn it on. Myself, I think of that moment every time I push a piece of wood into the blade. One more thing USE A PUSH STICK!!!!! You're a BOTL so I care for you. Be safe every time for us.

I was in construction for about 8 yrs (HVAC) and have done a lot of things from running screws into my fingers, getting electrocuted, cut open, hit with a hammer among others, but I can't honestly say that I've had a saw blade climb up my body. Luckily, no one was hurt badly and I realized that the past 2 yrs in an office pushing papers instead of working with my hands has softened my skills and my brain a little. Well, it hardened up a little today! I'll take it easy from now on and will definitely confer w/ my BOTL prior to my next project.

I was going to use a push stick, but I was afraid the board would wander and not cut straight. You do great work by the way. Hope you have a warehouse to store them all.

You are 100% right! I worked at a cabinet shop for about a year and a guy lost a few fingers on a table saw. Also, the wall behind the saw had holes in it from boards that were kicked back.

The incident where the saw blade came off my skill saw happened when I was joisting. I had put a new blade on my skil saw and forgot to tighten it. I heard it rattling around so when I took my finger off the trigger, It unscrewed the bolt that holds the blade. The blade got violent and came out of the saw. (had the gaurd pinned back)Then it caught my pants and climbed up my pants and shirt. I moved my head quickly to the left as the blade flew over my right shoulder and landed about 50 feet away. It almost hit me in the face. The only thing that happened to me was little pecker tracks where the blade barely went through my clothes. That freaked me out something serious. I hate days like that.
