Who uses UPS (uninterupted power supply)?

I want to by a UPS system. I'm doing this because everytime we lose power, my hydra shuts off. Then it takes me like a week to get the damn thing set up the way I want to again. Not only that, but I am upgrading to the Hydra LG model (c-bid strikes again).

I want to use the UPS system for both humidors, and I can get one fairly cheap here. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Oh yeah, and I am looking for a CAO America Anthem humidor. I posted an ISO in the buy/sell/trade section.

I put a computer APS on the Oasis II I have in the tower I keep up at the lake house. We loose power about once every week or two up there so it would be a problem for the unit. This is the same APS you would use for a computer. It has enough reserve time to keep things going until my gen-set kicks in, so there is no disruption of power effecting the unit. It was cheaper and does the trick!

OK. this is what I am talking about. However, I do not have a whole house generator (but we are planning on that soon). Are the "time" tables correct for these, or would a humidifier take much less power, expanding the times? Usually we do not get a full scale outage, but do get quick brown outs.

I think most of them will work. I don't think the fan draws more than a computer running. In fact, think it may draw less. Look for one that has say 20 min or so reserve time. I guess you could hook it up and run it to see exactly how long it takes. If you're time out of power is intermittent, I think this will solve your problem so you don't have to worry.

A humi would take soooo much less power that I think for brownouts almost any UPS would work. How long are we talking about? I'm guessing that a 280VA would last for months driving a Hydra - how long does a Cigar Oasis last running of 6AA's last? Four months? Six months?

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought too.

This was my thought process as well. I was thinking it may run for quite a few days. It would have a Hydra Lg and an Oasis Ultra running off of it.

Ok, I have made up my mind.

Thanks folks!

I like the idea! I am looking into a setup that will require one of those as well.

For more 'remote storage' I was thinking about a vinotemp and using a computer based hygrometer. Of course then I need to finagle a laptop for it to plug into and upload the stats so I can watch it over the web.

Good to know that those things won't use much energy!
