How to age/store correctly???

I have been wondering what the correct procedure is for taking the cellos off and aging cigars?

Should I only take the cello's off one kind of stick so not to get the smell and flavor from another stick? Or should I just use a divider between different brands that don't have cello's on them?

I usually leave the cellos on the cigars, but have noticed a lot of guys do this on this forum so there has to be a positive effect

thanks for the help!
Scott

I seperate my nudes and cello, but if the company took the time to put the cello on I leave it. It is a small level of protection, and is porus enough for the cigars to breath. Its a lot like the thought of many to seperate Nic, DR, Hond, and ISOMs and I say if you have a big enough humi go for it, but myself with a medium size humi I try to seperate mild, med and full nudes and cellos into seperate areas.

I do the exact same thing. Cigars tend to age more "gracefully" in cello, where as cigars naked usually age faster

There is no right or wrong answer here. As with most things, it's a matter of personal preference. Cello slows the transfer of air/moisture thereby slowing the aging process. It also protects your sticks from getting damaged. Try it both ways and see which way you like best. I normally remove the cello from 5 or 6 in the bottom of every box and leave the rest dressed to protect them. The factory ages them naked and until cello started to be used all cigars were aged naked.

That's what I started to do when I get a box of something. I am making one humidor an AGE humidor with a bunch of uncellophaned cigars to see if I can tell the difference between those and the cellophaned ones.

Thanks for all the replys!

The correct procedure is as follows:

You should send all your cigars to me:
I will in turn take all the cello's off and let them age properly. Periodically I will take 1 cigar to try out and smoke to ensure the proper aging conditions. When I think they are properly aged I will send whatever is left back to you to try. I wont even charge you for the services. HAHAHA LOL JK

Guys, from a manufactuers stand point, the ONLY reason we put cello on a cigar is to protect it during shipping. If we had a choice, we would ship all cigars naked. have you ever been to an aging room inside a factory?? How many cigars do you see aging in cello? ZERO!!!

Also, just for the record, I have had Maduro cigars sitting on top of natural cigars on top of rosado cigars on top of Dominican cigars, on top of Nic cigars etc..etc.. for years and I have never had any ill effects.

This comes down to personal prefference. Take two identical cigars, age one in cello and age one naked...smoke both after 8 months and decide for yourself.

IMHO if you have a big enough humi with shelves, naked will work best for you. I find that if you do alot of cigar moving and searching around for that one stick you will increase the likelihood of damaging the wrapper. My humidor for instance has quite a bit of Spanish Cedar in it and ages the cigars quite fast and well. I typically can start getting bloom going in about a month or two in a cigar.

I have a 150 ct humidor that I just have nakeds in. the top shelve is just the individuals, the bottom is brands that I have about 10 or so so I can just let the ones on the bottom sit and not get disrubted, and I can still grab one from the top when I want one of that style.

Lotsa good posts here. I tend to be a little clumsy, so tend to keep the cellos on for protection's sake.
