When I build A humi, I keep the Cedar in A bag with 70% crystals. That way I can cut it dimentionally accurate and not have to worry about it moving when I get it built and in use.

Waiting for my 70% beads to get in. In the meantime I have some water in the humi strip that came with it and a separate little dish with a touch of water in it. Holding at about 64% right now. Hoping the beads bump it up to at least 68.

I usually use a dish of distilled water for a few days, but I have heard some people rub solution on the wood but not sure about that....

I think I am going to go with the 65% beads instead of the 70%

Watch this video. It's great, it's done by a guy from JR Cigars and is reasonably short in length.

I start by opening a new roll of paper towels. I get it very very lightly damp with distilled water and I wipe it down (not to soak it, but to remove any dust it may have collected from sitting)

Then i soak the humidifiers and put them in along with a bowl of distilled.. then I just give it time until it's comfortable at 70sh.

good advice. when you can hold 72% for a day, its time to add the cigars

I go to Price Chopper (local grocery store), grab a 3 pack of their generic non scented anti-bacterial treated sponges and 2 gallons of distilled water.

I rinse one of the sponges with about half a gallon, and then squeze the sponge out, and lightly wet the wood on the inside. I then close my humidor and let it sit for about an hour. Then I go back and Repeat. let it sit for an hour, then one more light wetting (total of 3).

Then I add my Humidifier charged up and leave the sqeezed out and slightly dry/damp sponge on a paper towel in the humidor. Then I let it sit again for another 24-48 hours before checking the RH and temp in the humidor. once its at a respectible level (I like to keep mine at 65%), I add my cigars.

DONE!!!

Ive done this 3 times, and this seems to work the best way for me!

Have you asked the sellor what is suggested by the manufacuter? If you expect to have any recourse, this might be something to consider IMO

I have had great luck letting the humi sit for a week with a bowl of distilled water. It's been foolproof.

He says not to wipe it down, but I've been doing that with my humidors (And recommending that) for over 16 years and I've NEVER had a humidor to warp or sustain any other damage, nor have any customers. That is what works for me. It's QUICK & SIMPLE. Use common sense when wiping down the wood. Don't just pour 4 cups of water all over the wood. I use a rag or wash cloth, soak the it really well with distilled water and begin wiping all wood surfaces down inside the humidor - trays and dividers, too. You'll begin seeing the wood absorb the water. I usually go over it 2 - 3 time. This way, a fair amount of water is absorbed into the wood and it does not have to be seasoned maybe twice a year.

It's fast, it's easy, and it works.

I start putting cigars in the humidor roughly 4 hours later. With my system, you do not have to wait days to use your humidor, waiting for water to evaporate from the bowl to the wood.

Not to mention, a damn shot glass of water is nowhere near the amount of water it takes to properly season the wood. It takes much more.

I use a brand new 100% cotton wash cloth, soak it with distilled water squeeze out as much of the water as possible and pat down the complete inside, shelves and dividers then close the humidor and let it set for few hours then repeat the process again, then let set for 24 hours. This has worked for all my humidors.
