cat litter beads changed my life...

ok... so maybe they didnt change my life, BUT they did save me a ton when it came time to humidify my new cab humi.

i was originally given this idea from a pretty 'good fella' on another forum who said he uses it in his vinotemp humi.

i picked up a very large bag (weight is not listed anywhere on it, i'm guessing around 7 pounds) of premium choice cat litter beads. odorless, nothing in the bag besides silica beads.

i have a little over one pound on them in the humi now, in 5 different small pastic containers. my humidity is holding at a PERFECT 65% with no odor/problems at all from them.

the bag costs me a total of $16 bucks after taxes at a local pet store. this is an awesome way to keep humidity if your looking for a cheap route, just make sure you get the pure silica beads. if you pick up something else you'll have to pick the 'odor crystals' out of them before putting them in the humi.

I've been using kitty beads for a couple months and they seem to break down quickly. I am going to order some heartfelt's to see how they hold up, although I hear they are great. Even if I switch the kitty beads more often they sure are cheap!

Let us know how these work long term. If I know what brand I had I would post it so we could compare.

yea, i really look forward to seeing how these hold up over the next 6-12 months.

in the event i fall in to some money though, i'll just break down and buy an oasis xl plus to be done with it.

i'm sending some of my extra beads out to another member on here, hopefully he can also speak about how well they work.

Hearfelt beads and kitty litter are not the same product. Have used Hearfelt for years, and the only reason I have every replaced them is because they gradually become tobacco stained, and turn a dark tan, but that takes a few years.

LOL!!! That is too funny. Seriously, interesting about the kitty litter beads. May have to think about that if I ever run out of my others.

I was thinking of using the cat litter, but I didn't want my cat taking a dump on my humidor....

Has been discussed on the other forums for awhile. Don't worry six pack I have been using them for quite sometime and no problem. Humi stays @ 65% and no dog rocket smelling cigars. As long as their contents are silica sand, H2O and oxygen then you are good to go. May have to rehydrate from time to time but they work. JMO

Sounds like my kind of price, except that with Humi Beads, you buy only once.

Throw 'em out? Rewet them? Got questions, need answers.
