Seasoning a new humidor question

I am 8 days into my 14 day humidor seasoning. To season, I am using a Boveda 84% seasoning pack. So far, my humidor has not reached the 84% mark – in fact, it has only hit 67% RH. Is there a better way to season the humidor – am I doing something wrong? And yes, I did remove the Boveda pack from its plastic outer bag

Also – I bought a Boveda 75% one step hygrometer calibrator. It showed my new Xikar hygro was almost 20% off. Prior to recalibrating, I tried the salt method – it showed the hygro to be right on.

Are the Boveda packs that far off? I’m in Houston – low humidty is usually not an issue here!

Any pointers or advice for this newbie would certainly be appreciated

What RH are you shooting for? 67% sounds good to me. If you want it at 70% that should happen soon. Adding sticks will probably drop the RH temporarily but nothing to worry about.

Re: Seasoning a new humidor question

You don't need to get your humidor to 87%. Let it get to 70% and then switch to your regular means of humidification.

Boveda packs are pretty good but I wouldn't trust one that told me my recently salt tested hygro was 20% off. That is absurd.

BTW, boveda packs are a pretty expensive way to maintain humidity long term. Have you looked into gel humidifiers or beads (if your humi is very large)?

After 8 days I would be beside myself,,,you're good with 67% and then with some beads you are ready to R/R.

OK - I guess I misunderstood - I thought to season the humi that it had to be brought up to a high (87%) RH. That's a relief - thank you!

I bought some "Ice Crystal Gel" - I stumbled up on it at Amazon. However, now I see that it is sold at Pro Humidors. I'm may be new to this forum, but I'd rather buy from someone who posts here than an outsider! Oh yes, my humi is a 50 cigar size - similar to the "Capri Elegant".
