Re: Low humidity

You have to recharge your humidifier quite often at dry winter months

Re: Low humidity

wipe down the lid and sides once a night with distilled water. Check it about a half hour later and make sure the hygrometer spikes. I ve been going through this with my newest one. It is over 10 years old and was never seasoned. Im assuming the age on the cedar has caused it to dry out significantly. Maybe yours is the same case either that or the lids arent sealing....I hope im wrong on that thought.

Re: Low humidity

I don't like to actually wipe the wood with water. I think I'll just microwave some distilled water in a dish and leave it in there w/o the smokes overnight. Think this will help?

Re: Low humidity

Do you have any cigars in it at least 50% full, they will help stabilize the RH too. Have you checked for leaks and is your meter correct?

Re: Low humidity

Wiping down the wood can be dangerous if the Spanish cedar is thin. You run the risk of warping and losing the seal. Heat in the winter can quickly suck almost all the moisture out of a room and a humidor. I would advise seeing what the hygrometer reads in the room at large. Since you say the hygrometer is accurate I'm assuming it's a digital and you've checked it.

Although its hard to concentrate on an answer with bouncing boobies in front of you...

yes its been completely full the whole time, i've been taking smokes from my other humi. I haven't checked for leaks but it held good rh in the summer. How do i do that, put a flashlight in it and turn the lights off? And yea i've used different meters which read the same.

yea its a digital. the room itself reads around 40% humidity, so the humi is about 20% higher than the room.

Thats right use a flash lite but I think your problem is just winter.

That's just because I'm not always right, don't blame it on my Avatar.

Re: Low humidity

I can't even use a traditional wood humidor in the winter in Wisconsin. It's literally desert-like as far as humidity goes (somewhere in the range of 10%).
I've gone exclusively to a coolador starting this winter. Coolers are SO MUCH more efficient I won't even go back to a traditional humidor anymore. Not worth the hassle.

Re: Low humidity

I was having the same problem in my 2 larger humis so I added a small humidity puck filled with distilled water filled Water Jewels (available at craft stores like Michaels or JoAnn Fabric for $.99) along with my 65% beads and they are both back to 63-65% and holding.
