Yet Another Coolador Question

I couldn't find a straight answer to this one...so here it is:

Should the vent hole(s) in the cooler lid (e.g. Rubbermaid) be plugged to keep water and odors out? If so, what 'material' would work best?

The wire racks are ready. Beads and hygrometer are here. The spanish cedar sheets and empty unfinished boxes are here. Just need to clean up the cooler.

Thanks.

Plugged. Spray foam works wonders. Just let it dry out thoroughly before putting your cigars in because it does release fumes when it's drying. Take an exacto knife and trim it down when it is dry.

Re: Yet Another Coolador Question

Spray foam never entered my mind. That sounds like a winner.

It's a single 5/16" hole...got to thinking about it more today...maybe run a nylon or stainless bolt up into it after spray foam...

Very nice idea. Should blend right in as well.

Re: Yet Another Coolador Question

For anyone wondering ...

I found 3/8" nylon plugs at the home center. A little hot glue to hold the plug in and it's good to go.

Re: Yet Another Coolador Question

RubberMaid 48qt. 1/2lb. Shilala beads. Xikar hygrometer.

Here's a few of it mostly finished. Sorry that I forgot to take pictures of the hole plug, it's now hidden behind the top cedar sheets.

All boxes are empty. Those Klafter's Super Toro (6x60) boxes are bigger than some humidors. The B&M I go to is pretty good about having boxes cheap and the cedar sheets.

The cedar blocks on the lid are an attempt to limit the air movement across the hinge point on the cooler. They don't hurt the opening or closing of it. Although I might still need to add weather strip material to get a better seal.

The racks are normally for dishes/cupboards but I'd seen them used in another cooler picture. I cut one down to have the boxes sit 1/2" or so from the bottom of the cooler to allow air movement and to give me a spot to layer in some more cedar sheets.

Re: Yet Another Coolador Question

My Rubbermaid had only one vent hole so I just stuck the hygro magnet over it. I also think that small plugs made from plumbers putty would also work just fine
